Should we auction plants in the for sale section?

I think to auction off plants will have to have regulations! One, would be to post exact date and time the auction ends. Two, all bids would have to be posted for everyone to see! Last bidder gets the plant period!

Bids by any other means should be prohibited!

E-bay is set up for auctions. One could always post a link to thier plants that are for sale on E- bay!

I will vote no to auction to keep the for sale section simple for the moderators.

Too many open ended problems.

First IPS member for sure, but that is already a requirement.

If no one knows the bid, you have to trust that the bidder got a "real" higher bid.

How do you know that the pictures that people see in the email are all the same? posted with the sale would solve that.

Not to mention, ebay makes some money off the services they provide..

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

If you do not know the value of your plant in this economy it is better to sell you Items with a high start price and ask for OBO (or best Offer). Then if people show no interest you can lower your asking price.

People should not try and sell there Items at a cheap price and and then ask OBO (or BETTER offer) It wastes a lot of peoples time.

I posted my cycads for sale in a bidding format because of a situation that arose earlie with regards to a higher offer on an established bid. The only fair thing would be to give everyone an equal opportunity to bid on an item. If you take the ability from palmtalkers to post things for sale and get the best money for their item and limit bidding sales to ebay, you might not have as many palmtalkers paying the extra money to join IPS in order to place items for sale. If you expect someone to refuse a higher offer on an item for sale you might not have 100% agreement.

Vincent,

The plant you offered for sale should have gone to Bill Sanford!!!

You offered the plant for a set price. Then you cheated Bill out of a great price for the plant you were selling!

You did not honor the contract you offered! You offered the first one to come up with a commitment to buy gets the plant. Bill was the first!

You got greedy and dishonered yourself by not selling the plant the way you represented it for sale!

My two cents

Auctions need to be prohibitid in this forum! Buyers need also be wary of those who refuse to show photos and reveal their location. If you make a deal, stick to it or go away!

If I have my way, auctioning will not take place here. As someone who has participated in hundreds of eBay auctions, both as a buyer and seller, I can assure you there are many contingencies that we could not accommodate here - from buyers not following through with their offers, to a flurry of bids at the last minute/second that some of those in remote time zones could not negotiate, and that the server may not handle expeditiously.

I could suggest though, that if someone is an IPS Member, we could allow a link to the auction. That way the seller would get all the exposure PalmTalk offers (plus everything eBay can offer), and all the contingencies and logistics would be taken care of. Of course, someone would need to assure that those who are posting any links are in fact IPS members. But other than that, I don't see any problems. In fact, we could demand a link or reference back to PalmTalk and a mention of the IPS (if allowed) in the auctions to get more exposure to both from those visiting eBay. PiousPalms (Bill), who helps with the Moderating of the Palm Exchange would need to chime in, as he would be one of those doing any extra work. But those are my feelings. I am willing to bring it up with the PT committee if there is enough interest.

I shop Ebay and I shop craigslist. I don't need referals to ebay from the palmtalk site..I weed thru enough of that on Craiglist.

I would think Ebay offers enough exposer, that other sites don't need to carry their auctions as well. If people want to get a plant from Ebay they will look there! If they want to shop craigslist they will look there!

I Started shopping here because I feel the people here are held to a higher standard by other forum participants.

I would not want to go thru the for sale forum and find a bunch of Ebay ads that I have already seen.
