Aloha Andrew, this one hasn't flowered yet. It's about 3.5' tall and about 5' wide.

Mike, I didn't realize Lee was such an acrobat. Does she walk the garden on her hands?

Solitary, right? I am pretty sure I have a lot of these naumanii--it was distributed from Fairchild Gardens to a few members, way back when. I have since encountered several of these plants with lots of seed--the seed is orange(not red), if I am not mistaken, and the infructescence is pretty long for the plant. The plant itself may be fast--I can speak to the small plant's vigor, but it does not grow tall(most plants are in the 4 to 6 feet of trunk category). I think a world record would be ten feet tall. Overall I would say a great palm for an intimate spot that grows very well for South Florida. Of course, I may have the wrong plant! :lol2:

I just researched this name a little as I had seeds in last week: It seems like this is a simple spelling error (m corrupted to ro) on behalf of Kew's WCSP http://apps.kew.org/wcsp/namedetail.do?name_id=112216

On IPNI, the name is listed correctly

http://www.ipni.org/ipni/simplePlantNameSearch.do?find_wholeName=licuala+naumannii&output_format=normal&query_type=by_query&back_page=query_ipni.html

Besides that, Burret was a German botanist and Naumann is a German name while Nauroann does not make any sense (the ii at the end indicates that specific name was coined to honor a person).

Best, TOBY

Spectacular. Do you think this would make a good houseplant?

Thanks Toby for confirming what Ryan and I always thought. And selling under it's correct spelling. Just this past week my palm here at the house produced it's first bract of seed, approx. 200. A nice species for a small spot in the garden.

Orange seed? Does the infructesence extend beyond the crown? Without photos, it's a guessing game...

As best I know, this is what I am calling 'naumannii'. Any comments for or against? I know it's a great grower for us--must love the limestone.
