The crotons (yes the crotons) look amazing. Are there any that will take more shade, filtered light?

Hi Mark,

To answer your question, almost all crotons do their best in a shady/filter light area. Very few (mostly green and yellow types)hold up and look good in full sun. And there are a few that actually prefer a deep shady spot to bring out their pastel colors.

This weekend sale will present our largest selection and collections of plants ever offered before. I worked really hard this summer to propagate lots of tropicals, including my largest selection of crotons ever offered. We will have over 250 species of palms and cycads, including some Encephalartos for the first time. Our selection of bromeliads, flowering trees and landscaping ornamentals will be the biggest ever.

Ryan (Palmarum) has worked very hard all summer making many new information cards that will be placed in front of many of these plants. These info. cards I feel, are worth their "weight in gold" with lots of great information regarding habitat, where to plant your palm in the yard, water needs, etc.

The nasty weather today has moved off and the weather forcast for friday is only 5% chance. Hope to see many of you come out!

Mark@Palm Beach - it is a misnomer that crotons need to be in full sun. The majority of the available croton cultivars actually love to be in partial to full shade to show off their best aspects.

Mike - I think you should address your palm needs first. There will be plenty of croton cultivars after you aquire your palm selections on your wish list.

Jeff - your croton sale area looks twice as big as last year, they look even better if that is possible.

Nice to see the photo of Lytocaryum weddellianum. I wonder if it's under-appreciated. Mine's growing nicely in oak shade, in a sort of a thicket of Salvia coccinea and small heliconias. Seems hardy at Leu Gardens in Orlando, happy here with assorted Chamaedorea and Cryosophila warscewiczii, which were all unfazed by 28 degree temperatures, a whole week of brief freezing at night, and a nasty all-night near-freezing rain.

Might come Friday. Yard needs are minimal--if anything there's too much growing in the yard and some selective removals and relocations are needed. Any rain lilies this year?

Jeff...will Ryans new infocards accompany the plants purchased...

Nope, not intentionally anyway, as they are needed for future sales and take time and effort to make. I do notice a few that disappear now and then but measures are in place to try and prevent that from happening.

...Any rain lilies this year?...

No rain lilies (Zephyranthes) this year. The closest plant in relation to them that we have is a type of Agapanthus, lily of the Nile. Slightly further away in the botanical outline, we also have Louisiana Irises.

Where's the Broms?

The Bromeliads were moved this Fall to a new section near the holding area, including the fiberglass house in behind. Larry and the gang were working on them until late in the day, and I didn't get a chance to photograph them yet.

That Dypsis arenarum is interesting. All the ones I've ever seen look like D.lutescens, which I assume they are. Yours is a different plant entirely looking more like an upright D. onilahensis. Hmmmmm, I've got a Dypsis mystery that just might match your D. arenarum. Can you tell us anything about this plant Jeff?
