I Still Just Can't Resist

I can't grow these dang things here but when I see a nice one available, I can't resist the temptation. They're just so cool. Maybe I'll get a few years out of this one if I overwinter it inside. It's planted in 75% beach sand and 25% Miracle Grow Moisture Control Potting Mix in a 5 gallon metal container. The coconut palm was only $15.00.

Here she is in all her glory. (My collies are keeping an angry eye on a big egret).

The nut is quite sizable.

Is this a gold Malayan dwarf variety?

Here's the hungry egret my dogs are keeping up on my roof and away from my koi.

No comment. Just like looking at your pictures Jim.

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

Oh dear....there's more than one like me ??? I got mine for $5 about the same size too, but this time he is staying in a pot until he is big enough to survive in ground. As winter is nearly here and after last night it just may have sneaked in a few weeks early, my coconut has a nice warm spot beside the engine bit of the airconditioning system. Jim, we shall conquer !!

We have them here too, for about 10 USD. Our local garden centre position them randomly like a paper trail leading to the till! I say, "Oh, no you don't".

Very nice coconut! nice that fronds are already starting to separate and open... I thinks it's a Golden Malayan but harder to tell exactly when its young. but these experts up here can def. help you! -Justin
