Wow Braden, the more I see those "before" shots I'm amazed at the work you guys have done!!

Plus, if I heard from Bob right didn't the neighbor with the big Bismarkia originally buy it from BO when he lived over here?? :hmm:

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

I do some experiments and learning in my garden with palms so you don't have to experience the pain! Look at my old threads to find various observations and tips!

3 acres! in California!.......I can only imagine what land like that costs over there (with a house to boot). So Braden, you gonna be living there I assume? Got to have someone around to run off all the varmits

I wished I was there to help you get rid of a couple of those pesky P. reclinata's. Was it a palm nursery before? Anyways,

congradulations on the purchase. Anything worth having is usually hard work, and you look to have a diamond there.

I like the wood work you decided to keep on the house. I paid a lot of money to get that effect at mine.

By the way, I saw the listing on Redfin. You got a steal!

Yes the place was a nursery in the past, it seems they grew mostly phoenix relinatas and cycas revolutas. We had to use the tractor to get the phoenix out of the ground, they broke out of the boxes and were rooted in deeply. I tried to sell them, and then offered them free and no one wanted them.

Braden lives there with some friends and 4 dogs, and I'm there at least 4 days a week, as it is only 26 mi from my home in San Clemente. This is a great time to score property in California.

Braden, perfect and good job! Have seen this thread a little bit too late. But better late than never. You have wonderful palms, excellent plans and a good area. Wish you success and all the best with your new work. :)

You guys have done a fantastic/monumental job for sure! Your place is only gonna get better and better!

Pogobob, from one Sabal lover to the next,,, i can send you S.Palmetto seeds if you like!!!! :floor: The driveway would look nice when lined w/ them!!

But seriously,, I would line the driveway w/ your mystery Syagrus, what a beautifull specimen and i have many seedlings now thanks to you!

I will say though that you guys chose the expensive route w/ disposing of the unwanted debris. Not sure how your soil is there, but i dug a huge hole here at my place and burried it! 3.5 acres worth of weeds/citrus trees! Please keep the pics coming, it brings back fond memories when i did the same thing here.

Hey Mark, we woulda hadta dig a hole to China to bury all the crap here! Also too much toxic stuff. We got a discounted rate on the dumpsters as the recession has slowed demand for them. I chainsawed 3 MFuggly sablahs down in your honor :D ! Why waste space with Sablaghs when I can grow Braheas and Prichardias. We are blessed with decomposed granite soil and lots of beutiful boulders, many even have grinding holes in them from the Native Americans who inhabited this area in the past. We also discovered an old abandoned well on the bottom of the land and the water table is only 9ft below the surface. We will have to drill a new well as the old one is too close to the easment for the future widening of the road close by.

Glad to hear the Abreojos seedlings are growing...Bob

Thanks Mark, I tried a cheaper way at first to get rid of the dead wood/green waste. I had a giant pit with a raging fire but after about 4 days my massive bon-fire sadly came to an end when the fire department showed up and put it out :rage:

For sure gonna pop some "abreojos" in the mix too!

Great job guys. The before and after really show how much work was done. Between your garden and what you guys have done at the nursery.are you guys going to offer landscaping with the nursery?

Thanx Shon, We will offer some landscape installation in the future, but for now our time is consumed with getting the place up and running :)

What a tragedy when someone comes in and destroys a huge rubbish pile like that property was. It probably took a lot of people years to create that masterpiece, and now look at what you've done to it. :mrlooney:

Just kidding. The transformation is awesome! I hope your nursery is very successful.

Your place looks awesome Bob and Braden! Congratulations! You have the most amazing display garden I've ever seen at a nursery. Are all of the in-ground plants display only, or are they available for sale as field dug specimines as well?

Hey Matty

The display plants are for sale also (not all of them but most). I'm trying to fill the place up with various "field grown plants" lately. Trying to get lots of digging done this winter when the soil is wet and easier to work with :winkie:

Yeah, I go nuts planting lots of stuff in Winter because the ground is softer and things don't dry out so fast like in Summer. Give's them a chance to grow some roots.

I like that ornamental field growing technique. Ken Johnson's pool area is done that way. It's all landscaped out but it's a rotating crop of specimine palms for sale. Looks a lot cooler than rows.
