My Palm Garden in Gainesville, FL!

Yes! This is the yard from the "neglected" thread (although it was more like abuse!). I didn't include some photos of palms, such as the Lytocaryum, Sabal domingensis, one of the Acrocomia, and Archontophoenix + a few more palms because they aren't pretty to look at. Sometimes is makes me cringe to see palms look so abused... maybe that means I like tropical plants too much? Some palms are totally gone too... they were either mowed over, ran over by a truck (not kidding!), or mysteriously disappeared.

I know you're not kidding about palms being run over. My first lutescens was nailed by a drunken driver - my prized onily was run over by construction equipment. And yeah, the "mysterious" disappearance, grrr....

The palm garden is wonderful and it's surprising what all you're growing up there. Those palms sure are well-tended. Your lutescens looks so nice, hard to believe you can grow it up there, but it may be hardier than sometimes credited for. How long has it been in that spot? And how long have you had the Illiwara planted out?

Let's hope for a warm winter! It's supposed to be wet, but if we have a wet spring, that will be great for the tropicals.

Zone - a wacked-out place between 9b & 10

Elevation = 44' - not that it does any good

Keep in mind, this is a very favorable microclimate and does not reflect Gainesville very well. I live(d) about 2 miles from the University and I saw close to 19F in my yard, while this microclimate saw 29F. The McCarty complex of buildings are quite old and if you notice the windows are crank/louver windows. The buildings are basically conditioning the courtyard. Move 100 yards away from the complex and the temps will drop significantly.

Kyle,

We need a seasonal update after the 2009-2010 disastrous freeze.

Here are some updates!

Copernicia alba - A trio planted. They're all the same edge, and they all grow so differently! I think when we make judgments about palm tree growth habits, we should just make them relative to our palms and not the entire species, since they can vary so much!

Sabal "unknown" , but I think it's a rosei. It's very fast growing.
