peachy
Cool days, just above 20c on average, cold nights but nothing below freezing. Slight touch of frost a couple of mornings ago but no damage done to anything. Another 4 weeks to spring and all frost danger is over for another year. We really need a few good downpours of rain tho, its very dry here even for winter. Peachy I came. I saw. I purchased 27.35 south. Warm subtropical, with occasional frosts. gsytch
Still a bizarre summer here in Tampa Bay. We had some rain from our "normal" SE flow of storms, but once again it is back to our "abnormal" westerly flow off the Gulf, which has been all summer. Storms die as they approach land and reform 10 miles inland as the seabreeze moves in. The result = little rain and hot nights, very humid. The Gulf is 89F...do the math! Rain has been weird...too much at once and not enough for a week or two. The good news is no tropical activity and we like it that way! Greg in New Port Richey Begonias are my thing. Jeff in St Pete
Today I woke up to cloudy skies and torrential rains. It's been raining like that all day and temps are only in the mid 70's (23c-24c). August seems to be the transitional period as we are getting ready to head into our wettest time of year (September and October). The last 6 weeks or so have been mostly sunny with rain coming in the late afternoon or most frequently at night. High temperatures have been around 86-90 (30c-32c). It feels almost chilly today and I had to turn off my fans. I'm happy for all the rain. I've recently planted a lot of new palms and they need this kind of weather right now. Last night I didn't fall below the 18C/64.4F and I don't expect the coming night much lower. Yesterday also 30C/86F and tomorrow would be 29C/84.4F again. Of course, Perth and WA are majorly influenced by the Indian Ocean, and have almost no connection with the Pacific as the weather travels from west to east. Zeeth
Here in Bradenton, we've received an average amount of rain. It comes differently than most years though. It pours for a long time and then no rain, so it's high then low. I water all my palms every morning though, so the ones that aren't in transplant shock are growing well. My hurricane palms are showing the fastest growth of all my palms, probably followed by my big coconut, which I think is in a mild transplant shock. Neofolis
I really don't like the UK. After our worst winter for decades, we were forecast a hot summer by the MET office, but no, it's our third total absense of anything vaguely resembling a summer on the trot. To make it worse, most of Europe has been basking in sunshine for months with temperatures way above normal. We've just had our wettest July on record, I recorded over three times our average July rainfall. August was no better for the first week, but it has dried up a little since, but very little improvement in temperatures and still a lot of cloud cover most of the time. I remember looking at the temperature map for Europe a couple of weeks ago, it was 30°C/86°F in Paris, but here it was only 18°C/64°F. I'm sorry to hear about the UK, but also tomorrow and thursday we gonna reach 30C easly even a minimum temperature from 22C forecasted for the night from wednesday to thursday. 2009 is here the driest year so far since I start holidng the records. Even 2006 was till 17 August 30 mm wetter then 2009. For the plants it's really a great summer with much growth, however for me personally I only miss a stable peiod from 2 weeks or something with high temperatures, but for that I have to move to south europe. However mostly when it was raining it was at the good moment, mostly during the nights and always before or after some nice warm weather. I hope for you gonna get there a good aftersummer.
