Ricky, that is a fine list of hybrids you've collected. Nice shots also, look forward to seeing your other photos. Jv

After this past winter, I may have close to the lowest temperature with my JxB F2, which I got from Nigel in 2005. Our winter low was -9.1°C/15.6°F and it did not have a mark on it. This "summer" has been very poor again for the third year in a row and it has only produced three new leaves. Interestingly, each of the new leaves has some minor damage, which I am hoping does not proliferate during next winter. The palm is currently about 3-4' tall and still potted, so I'm sure it could survive lower temperatures in the ground. I don't have any recent photo's, but I will try to get some soon.

Neo, thanks for the freeze report! Good to know it made it through just fine and with minor damage. No doubt it probably would have done even better in the ground with the roots being warmer. Look forward to seeing your pics.... Jv

Ill post JV response here before this thread goes to page 2.

Seems like cocoid hybrids seem to be out of fashion....

The trend is now with Dypsis hybrids.

For me here in SoCAL, Dypsis are great and robust growers already.

Unlike the iconic and ilusive coconut growing here in SoCal,

cocoid hybrids give us the speed of a Lamborgghini and the look of the tropics.

Exerpt:

Well considering your in S.Cal, I think any of the hybrids will work for you.

The QxBxJ (this lineage for speed) would certainly be one of my top picks, if you can find it!

The BxJxQ (Patrics) won't be as fast with B and J being much slower growers and owning most of the lineage.

If money isn't an issue, then the BxPJ would also be a top pick (Dick Douglas' was a fast grower!).

Lastly I'd probably try the BYatay x Q. Yatay has those larger fronds that will probably look even more tropical.

Thanks for letting me know what Patric is offering now.

Thanks in advance. Jv

Patric puts a lot of work into these crosses, given how few people go out and buy a JxQ it seems the prices he charges are reasonable. I still got a JxQ before the $50 price hike this year, but perhaps he's running low now. I still think they're totally worth it at that price.

Nope, the price i got was as follows: JubaeaXQueen @ $150 ( 2 3/8 X 2 3/8 X 5 ) $ 150

When I got it it was basically in a small liner. I put it straight in a tall 7 gallon and it has doubled in size in three months.

I  know this is an old thread , and Mark hasn't been on here for years but has anyone that might know him laid eyes on this palm recently?
