The infamous Anthurium Superbum. THere was acraze for this particular species last year. I think somebody posted that it was going for over $3000 on ebay. It sort of drove the prices of Anthuriums here to unnatural levels.

Compared to last year's asking prices-- these were relatively reasonable. The ones in the picture are $70 -- and you could probably haggle it down a bit.

Great price reduction!!! Last mid 2007 the Ebay seller targeting Indonesian buyer, because a trend of this plants. So many peoples were regret to collect this plants in country. Prices drops to bottom.

ixigena - you said it!! Last year there were a lot of indonesians going to the Philippines searching these out. I heard of a couple that were sold at really outrageous prices - atround US$ 10,000!!! (but I think that may be exagerated though-- this is how urban legends start). But the effect was that every other anthurium was jacked up in price. THe heat has died down but now whenever I ask the price of an anthurium I wonder if it is still jacked up so I am discouaged to make a purchase.

Freakypalm guy - thanks for the ID-- you sure know a lot about "non-palm plants"

bapah - thanks for attaching a name to it. Over here people seldom attach a name to varieties of plants. Can this bamboo take full sun? Where can I read up about this bamboo?

Oh yeah -- and as an added treat I finally met another forum member face-to-face, George Yao (Gcyao). It was a pleasure meeting you George!! He knows way more about palms and plants in general than I do

Philpdendrons next--THis one is called Golgen Sellum. They have very specific light requirements-- leaves burn easily but if it gets too dark the newer leaves get smaller and smaller. I still need to get the hang of this one.

THere are a lot of "trash" or unnamed varieties. I guess the named ones are those that are seen with the most commecrial potential. Problem is that a lot of times when a specific variety enters our country it is christened a new name for the local market which can cause a lot of confusion in teh long run.

THere is one variety that is actually named "the Boxer" and I learned that over here they called it "Manny Pacquiao" after the popular Philippine pugilist

Hi, and I had a good laugh, you remembered me liking these Aglo's. We just did a big trade show this past weekend and saw a couple of brokers that are trying to get some over here in numbers. Nothing yet. Let me ask you, do remember what an average price was for these? I would love to know....and get some, pleeeeeeeze. Thanks for all the great pics!!

Jeff- well I had a lot of Aglonema pictures and a reaction to your earlier post mad a nice into for those series of pictures

I remember that the most expensive of these was 1,500 pesos. The exchange rate with you is around P47.50 Phillipine Pesos per 1 Dollar US so thats about $31 Dollars. If you look at post #15 the first picture with the 3 different varieties are all P1,500 each.

The next price group was at P900 each so thats roughly $18 per plant. An example of this is the middle picture of post 15.

The cheapest was at P500 so about $10 for you. The last picture in post#15 was at P500.

I saw these come in bareroot and were just being potted up on site right out of the box from thailand. These are really sturdy plants that are very very easy to propagate. Its as simple as breaking off the top and sticking it in the ground -- which I think means that the prices tend to go down vey quickly from year to year. Years back prices of the very new varieties were at the $300 to $400 but these were so new that they probably haven't been mass propagated yet-- only 1 or 2 plants come into our country and I guess the novelty of these very uniqe looking varieties are what make them saleable. Fast forward to the present and these same plants now come in here in dozens per variety and the prices are much more reasonable.

At the prices I mentioned each is just a single stem (no offhsoots or suckers yet) and carry about 6 or 7 leaves. They vary in height because teh leaves of some varieties are bigger.

I have no idea how much vendors here mark up on the prices - but there is usually room to haggle on the price

Hope that halps

gbarce and ariscott,

Post #30 is in fact Clusia rosea variegata. It should hold its variegation and is easy to propagate from cuttings (once they form aerial roots). We have two of them in 1 gallons. Hard to find. It is also called the Signature Plant, Autograph Tree, or Dwarf Pitch Apple. There is a standard form, a smaller form, and a dwarf form that makes a good shrub (Clusia rosea nana).

Any more variegated palms?? :)

Grass Trees. I understand that these are very very very slow growing so the fact that these have a bit of trunk means that these are several decades old.

THese come from Australia wher it is very dry and arid. I wonder how these will fare in the humid tropics. THey must have special facilities to take care of these.

Oh 'SaRRaca'. Those are closely related to Amherstias too right. The vendor was insistent though that its not a Sarraca. We'll see what teh blooms look like when they open.

For some reason uploading pictures are very very slow lately but I'll try to squeeze in a few more pictures tonight

A few more Encephalartos made an appearance. These are really very silvery and still covered in waxy residue. Looks like they were very recently shipped in -- I don't think cycads retain as much of that way coating on the leaves in our humid tropical climate.

They look amazing though
