I want to start a small new collection with unusual plants in old groups. Here's a quick list of things--I'll probably add more later on--that I have been reading about... Gnetum Ascarina, Sarcandra, Chloranthus Amborella Agathis Illicium Nageia (Podocarpus) nagi Wollemia (good luck!) Phyllocladus other odd conifers Some of these are pretty common in horticulture but I hope to find more sources. Others seem to have been around the trade only sporadically. I'm also shopping around for cycads, especially smaller Zamia species, and I might also like to find more unusual Equisetum. I am mainly growing these as potted specimens for the patio and as houseplan…

I am probably going to move from the Palm Springs Ca, Desert area, where our normal winter lows rarely get into the 30's, and don't go below 30 with out a rare cold snap coming through. Our lows are for very short periods in the early morning as it warms up quickly when the sun comes up ( winter Nov/Dec day time temps in the 70's, and higher through rest of year ). Its possible I will move to an area where winter lows are lower, and last longer through the night with lower winter day time highs. Soooo... My question is... I have in 15G, and a couple in 24" box.... 5 L. Alfredii, 1 L. Inermis, 4 L. Nasmophyla, and still want L. Victoriae. What kinda lows are realistic fo…

Sadleria cyatheoides/ red new frond
by Darold Petty- 8 replies

I will pay $50 to anyone who can direct me to a mail order source, shipped to SF for this fern. (Fern Factory shows 'out of stock'.) I have an existing plant with about 5 feet of stem, but it is entirely and always just green. I collected it along the Saddle Road above Hilo. Supposedly the red form is found around Waimea. Thanks, https://wildlifeofhawaii.com/flowers/686/sadleria-cyatheoides-amaumau-fern/

Looking for Agave attenuata "Nova or Boutin Blue"
by palmaddict- 1 reply
- 1.1k views
I am looking for Agave attenuata cultivar known as Nova or Boutin blue. Instead of the very common green color this one can be a very striking blue. I have one Nova with a pup bud I would rather not cut the pup off yet so I am looking for a plant to buy. Rancho Soledad thinks so hightly of this cultivar that they have produced it in tissue culture so it should be around. Patrick
