D-Album fungus?

I wasn’t sure if this was a fungus or just how these Dictyasperma look. All 3 of my palms look the same and have had this white mottled look for a while. Honestly can’t tell you if they came like that from the nursery. They are amongst 20 plus other 1-3 g palms. None of the others have anything similar. Your expertise is always appreciated

I’ve had this Trachycarpus wagnerianus for a few years and so far it grows extremely slow. It gets one frond per year and the fronds are different from the regular Waggies. Has anyone seen a Waggie like this before?

I decided not to try to fix my coconut after the hurricane. It's only been over these past few weeks that the tree has decided to move upward again and right itself. I finally trimmed some of the lower fronds to give it less of a unruly appearance. When it gets bigger, I guess it will have a nice curve at the base of the trunk to remind me of our first hurricane out here :-)

Hi guys, Great thanks to Dick and Patrick Schaeffer who sold me some hybrid seedlings when i was in the us 2 weeks ago. I am very proud to have these unfindable plants here in France. Here is a photo of them at home in France. Patrick sent me the plants at my motel, and the package was perfect and very carrefull. I put them in my luggage and went thru the european custom with no problem! Thanks again. Gilles.

I would like to thank everyone at CFPCS for a super meeting. I saw more incredible cycads than I would have ever seen before: E. dolomiticus, dyerianus, eugene, etc. All of these cycads were massive and tree like. I took some good photos (you can pm me and I will send pictures-include your email address too)and had fantastic food. The garden tours were really good and lots of deals at the auction. Wonderful people and I am now a member. The Palmateer is a well done magazine by the way.

pH Preference: Habitat or Universal?
by knell- 4 replies
I want to make my question as uncomplicated as possible: For palms that grow in higher (more basic) pH soils, are they tuned to this pH or would they do better in the traditional slightly acidic range? Does a palm that grows on limestone want limestone based soil when being grown outside of habitat?

Butia What?
by mallett_sj- 2 replies

Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure out what Butia this is, she is alot darker than any of my other butias. I would say in the year that I've had it, it's really widened the trunk base also. And it showed no effect to any of the cold weather we encountered this year in the DFW area. Are their bases supposed to be so green? Thanks

Weak Resolve

Last weekend I watched a Florida based YouTube video comparing Dypsis lanceolata growth rate to Dypsis pembana, the D pembana 'won' for that area. For no particular reason other than saving space for other species, I decided that I probably didn't need a D pembana, I already have the D lanceolata. So yesterday when confronted with a $19.95 D pembana, I of course, bought it...So now I guess that if I hurry up and plant the D pembana I can have a Hawai'i vesion of the contest as both are about the same size, the D lanceolata is a tad smaller but in ground a few months so sort of same size ish... First picture is the rose beetle munched D lanceolata, second the…

Mexican Fan Fronds Constricted
by spdn4fun- 1 follower

Hello! New to the group and have a question on my newly planted Mexican Fan. We had 2 Mexican Fans planted back in June here in Texas. One is thriving and continues to produce new fronds weekly. However, the other Mexican Fan isn’t doing the same. I can see new fronds but they almost look like they’re “constipated” and can’t push out. Is there something I can do to help, or is it just a matter of being patient? I’m watering it twice a week for 45 minutes. First 2 pics are the palm struggling to have the fronds pushed out. Last pic is the palm thriving. Both planted the same day and watered the same.

Within the next week or two I will be bringing in a shipment of palms from the Fallbrook, CA area into San Angelo, TX. I should have room on the truck if anybody is looking for something special that can be obtained from S. CA and is willing to pick it up in San Angelo, TX. PM me with your requests and I will see what my contacts out there can come up with for you. Species name and size of plant you desire would be most helpful.

Do you recognize this hairy, ugly but interesting unnamed old palm? It has big round soft fleshy seeds which are date-like when opened. If the 'Addams Family' had a palm it would have been this one. And this more cheery looking unnamed one, that I don't recognize either?

Hi How does Port St-Lucie fare as far as tropical? How does it compare to Cape Coral where I will probably move in the future? I just checked google earth and didn't see many crown shafted palms and no coconuts, that's east of the Florida turnpike where homes are in my price range. I saw quite a bit of burnt palm tress too. I also don't see too many extra lots next to properties like in Cape Coral. All lots seem to be built already, so no possibility to buy extra lots. Thanks Patrick
