   Losing My New Florida Foxtail...HELP NEEDED

   Hello, I purchased and planted a 30-gal potted single Foxtail Palm in October 2023. Located in Manatee County, Fl. Palm was about 8-feet and healthy (dark green fronds) at time of planting. Planted in good sandy soil, direct sunlight, with base of roots exposed as recommended. Added some 8-2-2 Sunniland Palm fertilizer in the hold and blended some potting soil in the native soil. Installed weed barrier and lava rock above. Watering is by irrigation 3x week (Tues, Thurs, Sat for 25 min per day). Sprinklers do reach the base of the palm. Unsure about water quality, it is a reclaimed source, hard w/ calcium hardness but I don't know much else besides that. …

   Hello, I have found this palm tree, which looks very similar to livistona chinensis, but it has much larger fruits and seeds and the palm tree itself is larger. After searching a lot, I think that perhaps it could be Livistona chinensis var. Subglobosa, although I have doubts and wanted to ask you here what you think. ruler in cm.

   Germinating is a fun hobby you always have something starting to appear if I have ten or twenty seeds of certain varieties i usually pot them up as soon as the new leaf or shoot appears picking them out as they appear so I end up with a mixed variety of seedlings where labeling them is important I recently got it wrong with what I thought was attalea cohune turning out be astrocaryum allatum now looking at the names together I can see how that happened the first and last names switching the brain around so thank you idontknowwhatnametouse without your correct identification I would have known no different thinking they where cohune palms

   Planted at end of summer last year and used a rich mixture of peat moss, potting soil and mulch. I use a drip system on them. Being in Arizona, I water all year but less in the winter months. How long before they get established and look really healthy. I have a lot of brown dry fronds.

    Hey fellow palm enthusiasts, I just became a first time home owner and am looking to plant some palms in my yard. I live in a 9a/b area in southwest Jacksonville FL. This being said I really wanted some coconut palms for their fruit and tropical look, however, I heard they are near impossible to keep alive up here. I may still try coconuts from seed(less costs if loss) in a pot that I can move indoors during cold snaps(40 degrees and lower) then outdoors all other days. Outside of the coconut, I am intrigued by the royal and king palms as a possible option for planting.     Working In the garden again

    Once again a bit of gardening maintenance I can certainly see the difference a bit of rainfall makes in the garden with it being so dry the last 7 months certainty has helped having 2 months good rainfall if the wet conditions continue it will be a wet winter keeping the sandy soil moisture in the ground along with the low temperatures helping the garden to relax and put on the previous summer growing conditions of the heat and humidity into growth changing the garden completely again with the new growth the good thing about getting older is our palms look better with age

    Kentia Palm

    I acquired an 16’ kentia palm with around a 10 foot trunk. The palm was removed from a front yard and was placed in a 36” box and transported to my driveway. It’s probably been in the box for about a month since removed. It’s going through some stress with the frond leaves browning, thinning and yellowing. My question is how long can I leave in the box before transplanting it. It’s going in the backyard that I am remodeling and won’t be done till another 5-6 months. I am in SoCal in Corona California.

    Here's another for which I need help. The seeds make me think it might be an Arenga, but that's merely a guess. Clumping, with crownshaft and stilt roots, It grows to 4 metres. It's pretty, and I new have spears emerging from the seeds shown here. But what is it? John E

    Ok Im new to palms and a bit intimidated by them but love the look. we are redoing our backyard and just put in a pool. I love the tropical landscape look, and it seems like some type of palms would be a great addition to a tropical landscape look. some people have scared me away from Queen palms because the get so tall, maintenance to keep them looking nice, etc. bit if I didn’t do Queen palms, what are some other smaller options? I was looking at Pygmy dwarf date palms but someone mentioned how they have really sharp needles on them?     Dypsis rosea

    Finally got around to giving this trio of Dypsis rosea some TLC. After trimming off some old leaf sheaths and fronds, they are looking rather epic. On island, we always referred to this palm as ‘Hawaiian Punch’, for obvious reasons. The smaller of the three needed more trimming and doesn’t have much color. These are not small palms. The white 5 gal. bucket for some scale in the one photo is between the two trunks. Tim

    Xmas palm health

    I bought this palm from a nursery this week and planted it a couple of days ago. It looked like this when I got it. I asked the lady what was wrong with it. and she said she didn’t know. What is this and is it recoverable? It was only $100 so I thought I would try one. There are no bugs and no mold spots. It’s my first palm. What is your advice?

    I purchased 200 Joey magnifica seeds from RPS so far so good with the germination process bottom heating 30 degrees Celsius coco coir perlite mix slightly on the medium dry side in styrofoam box’s with lids a very easy palm to germinate patience is the hard part the first one is starting to put out a new leaf hopefully the rest won’t be to far behind as they appear I use a BBQ fork to tease them out individually but always wait for the first leaf to appear

    Here I go again, with another palm that I now have shooting from seed, but don't know what it is. This is a small clumping pinnate that grows to about 4 - 5 metres. Leaves and trunks looks almost exactly like Pinanga sylvestris, though the seeds are completely different. Sylvestris seeds are oblong, these are smaller and round, and come on a single stem.     Can anyone help ID this small clumping palmate? Grows to about 3 metres. This was shot in Rajapreuk Gardens, Chiang Mai, Thailand.     A few new Palms that were planted last autumn some new ones for the collection nothing super spectacular in the rare department but new additions to the garden collection dypsis prestonia Gaussian maya borrasadon machadonis and a dypsis basilonga all have survived winter in the ground temperatures as low as 2 degrees Celsius
