How much sun are you guys growing these in? I had to take out an r. Sapida that was getting fried in the spot I hope to plant this 15g Wallichia disticha.

I planted a 25g over a year ago that had less of a lean but it has started to straighten out. It didn’t do anything for about 9 months in the ground.

Some are totally gone. I know that but I am hoping the ones I attached make it. It’s such a pain transplanting them this big. Everything around it gets destroyed. The few I attached look totally pale. I don’t even see green in the middle. I am going to untie them next week. Can they recover still if the spear is solid but it’s totally pale or do I need green fronds to expect a recovery?

What's your water pH? pH 6.2 or 6.4 gets the best absorption of nutrients in cycads. Of course rain water is always best.

Mine never grow before June in Arizona. This year, only a female cone is emerging currently.

It’s a grafted “Bruce” Canistel. Here it is today. Here are my two white sapotes “Vernon” and “suebelle”. Here is the black sapote I think whatever that is on the leaf’s isn’t a big deal, mine have it too. The new leaf’s look good. I think you should fertilize with fish emulsion. Everytime I do it flowers all year. I water everyday.

I’m thinking hybrid. The most recent pics of these palms look more like Cunninghamiana than Maxima. So I’m thinking Maxima/Cunninghamiana hybrid. I don’t have any in my current garden. The 2 I bought and planted at my old yard were very pale to be pure Maxima. When I moved they had a few rings of trunk and did not look pure Maxima.

Any update if it survived?

Has any research or testing ever been done to figure out what an Archontophoenix teracarpa actually is? A hybrid? A new species? A variation of a known species? The city has a bunch of these planted around town and could probably part with a frond or two for genetic testing. Emails to any of the research bodies in the state hasn't generated a response.

It will take a while this time of year. This year , in particular , has been a very hot July. Keep the watering and by Fall you should see some improvement. As soon as night time temps drop a bit. Harry

36 gallons per palm. I have a lot of palms. So I didn’t want to over water the established ones but right now I ended up bumping the water up to 50 gallons per tree because I am testing the soil and with this record high heat wave the soil is getting dry. I know they say if the soil is squishy at the bottom it’s too much water but when the soil is relatively squishy that’s when my transplanted palms look the best. I keep losing canaries but the the canaries that are closest to my grass all survived and I’m convinced it’s because they are getting even more water from my sprinkler system a foot away watering my grass

Archontophoenix is one of the most variable palms I grow. I have at least two, which are without question among the most beautiful palms in my yard. Others are so so. But with enough water, they are a great genus for us here in Southern California.

I just got up there and that hole in the trunk is only about a inch deep so that is not the problem just curious as to what made it!

Drippers are about 1’ away from the trunk!!

Thank you, when backfilled and freshly installed I added some organic palm tone. Maybe it needs some more water and time. Any suggestions on the lean ?

Our weather has been in the 80's and 90's. It has only been in the ground for about 8 days. It was leaning in the 25g pot as well. I thought putting it in the ground would make it better. Maybe it just needs time ? I watered it in as soon as it went into ground and has gotten water every other day since.

I’m having a really hard time keeping these transplanted canaries alive. I’m not seeing nearly as much issues with my date palms but these canaries have been difficult. i planted 32 palm trees on May 13-15th. I have 6, 4gph emitters on each palm tree & started running it at 30/30/30 so about 36 gallons of water per day. And I had 4, 4gph emitters on my med fans running the same time. Everything looked good up until week 8 and then I was told to bring water down to 20/20/20 but then we got hit with the heat wave of over 110 for days. Now they are on the decline. I have recently this week bumped water to 45/45/45 to fight the heat wave and now I’m just waiting. Here are some pics of my transplanted palms from May

Hi Jeff, I got mine from Mardy Darian around 2010 I think. But funny because they are exact same size and mine also had a 2nd trunk that died maybe 5 years ago. Matt
