I saw this palm in a store here and its suppose to be an Orange Lipstick Palm.

Looks like a lipstick palm enough but is just not exactly like it.  Its clustering but the leaves just don't look right.

There is a bit of color on the crownshaft but so far, to me at least, it just looks like a Lipstick palm with a nutrient deficiency. :P

Anyone know anything about this palm?  Is it a varient of teh regular lipstick palm or is it a different species entirely?

Better yet --does anyone have a picture of a mature specimen?  Will the Orange coloration improve?

Just curious about it.

Chakermchart - I found your thread  (DUH!!).  Great collection-- nice to see all the different varieties in one thread!!

That variegated philodendron was funny-- an exact split.

Jeff Marcus has two of these in his garden that looked amazing.  The orange is really a bright yellow when bigger.  I would buy it if you haven't already.

Jim,

that's a beautiful palm, from a "palm point of view". However, I have to admit that when it comes to C. renda I'm rather narrow-minded....I want them RED, and if possible REALLY REALLY red. The "redder" the better! The yellow variety may be very unusual, but it just doesn't do anything for me! :(

BO - I feel the same way.  If ever, I'd get one for the novelty factor.

:) Hi Gene,

The form you have posted is Cytostachys lakka ,

Jims plant looks to be the same form,

In planted in the right place contrasting colours of

other plants can make this Orange form stand out just

as much as C.renda. Nice picture.

P.S. You should'nt have hassles in getting  seed of

this 'var'.
