Cycas revoluta in PNW?

Featured Replies

IMG_0401.jpeg

On the Cistus website they talk about revoluta being hardy to 8b and essentially fine to put in the ground in the PNW. They advise covering it when temps get into the teens. I’m skeptical, but I’d imagine they would defoliate during a particularly cold winter but survive with protection and drainage. Does anyone have real experience seeing these grown in Oregon or Washington in the ground with our cold wet winters?

I got this one cheap from HD in the spring and after it’s done flushing I was going to stick it in the ground. I bought it on a whim so I’m not overly attached to it if it dies.
