Tipping Canaries

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone has experience with this. I transplanted these palms May 17th. It’s been about 6 weeks and they are staying pretty green despite the transplant shock but 1 is seriously tipping and the other two have a slight tilt (assuming from the wind)

any recommendations on what to do with issues like this? Thank you

Release the fronds (untie them). There’s no advantage to leaving them tied up still.

I just have them tied because the company said to keep them tied for 90 days or I lose my warranty. I’ll ask him if I can untie to take the weight off

They didn’t brace them and leaving them tied up for 90 days is a long time. Is this a reputable company? The 3rd one doesn’t look good. That is way too much lean.

That last photo is a bit concerning . I would have the installer have a look at it . Phoenix palms transplant easily , so even if they were field dug they should be ok . I agree with @Jim in Los Altos , this method of tying them up is unnecessary. I have moved some palms and only tied them up to make it easy to move them around. Harry

It is Clemente’s Palms out of California. Yes they are field dug, transplanted to my yard. The trunk is going to be shaved and cleaned up once they are established. I just didn’t want to do it right away until they got rooted.

I will ask about untying them. Thank you
