Container growing licualas

Featured Replies

Licualas ,they are actually quite easy to grow and surprisingly quite cool tolerant.

With so many varieties available in the genus theres a licuala out there for most collectors. Once you start collecting them they grow on you like chamaedoreas and the dypsis genus.

They do like water and if growing in containers you need good drainage, and with good drainage you can sit them in a shallow tray of water almost growing them hydroponically.

They perform well in the ground in wet climates but if you’re climate can get dry they out perform the ground dwellers in containers. And being slow growing most varieties, they are a good candidate for greenhouse growing and collectors.

Some varieties can get that rhapis look about them, but there are so many available and such diverse leaf shapes.

So the next time you want a new palm for that greenhouse collection take a look at licualas. IMG_3361.jpegLicuala png dwarfIMG_3364.jpegLicuala ptatydactyaIMG_3367.jpegLicuala mustapanaIMG_3372.jpegLicuala stenophylla var stenophylla IMG_3376.jpegLicuala wahIMG_3378.jpegLicuala North Sumatra

They are indeed, perfect palms for container production. You’re order comes to $500 plus postage they are a bit heavy atm, plus tax’s $1500 so total $2000 US dollars. 🤣

“Cheap at half the price “ , as Mum would say! Sounds like Australia is as bad as US taxes ( aka tariffs) . I may have to take out a mortgage or sell my pedally for that .🤔 Harry

Edit: actually $500 is pretty fair for all those super rare palms! I just looked them over . Happypalms has good prices , but I may have to trim my order a bit! Cheers!

X2 that’s pretty fair I would say, and I do trades for the the good old treddly or in my day we called them the deadly treadly. I still remember going to the swimming hole in the creek after school and making a jump so we could jump our bikes into the creek, we trashed our BMX bikes and loved it. Or better yet doubling your girlfriend around on the pedally now those were the days!!!
