Cool to see commercial property owners using palms other than syargus, phoenix etc.

Have any of you carried your hobby into properties other than your home?

Here’s my attempt at identifying these near me in the San Gabriel foothills

This is common in San Diego, where was this?

In Ventura California I have been seeing several Howea Foresteriana around the Industrial parks where my shop is . The Community Memorial Hospital has several mature Livistona Australis , large Howea Foresteriana , Chrysalidocarpus Lutescens, and beautiful Archontophoenix palms . Harry

Thanks for the Jubaeopsis pictures. It looks like a triple . I wonder how many Jubaeopsis are in the greater LA area and how many are mature ? The Jubaeopsis pictured is obviously close enough to the sidewalk that if it flowers and fruits the seed may get into a seed sprouting enthusiast’s hands . I would drive out of my way to see that palm on a repeat basis if I lived in the valley. We all have favorites I suppose.
Question for Harry , would you like to plant a Jubaeopsis?

Nice finds

The tree fern looks beautiful too. I saw some for sale on the reduced rack at lowe’s a few weeks ago but they’re a bit more tropical for their own good where i live. I think the cycad you saw is a Cycas circinalis, others may have something else to say though. All in all it’s nice to see diversity in the landscape though it’s typically seen in areas where there’s a smaller chance of such plants dying in winter.

Yes I’ve been watching it for a couple years hoping to get some seed.

I would like one in the right spot out front. It looks like they handle sun at an early stage . Harry

Ok, yea not common in Glendora. In LA its common to see giant birds of paradise, queens, washingtonias, roebellinis when a complex is trying to have a tropical look. But this place is definitely landscaped by someone who isn't doing the generic combinations. The giant Mexican tree fern is a pro move, not sure but it looks like tall areca palms and a dioon cycad rather than the sago palm that is often used. This would be somewhat common in San Diego, but very rare in LA county.

Harry, Someday we need to meet , maybe at the Jubaeopsis in Ventura. I have a successful young palm from the Sullivan mother tree and I would like one to find a home in Santa Paula. My relatives lived there a hundred years ago. Maybe put it where the seeds might roll onto the sidewalk someday for future growers.
You can find me at Winfieldfarm.us  you can find a phone there too.

i made the mistake to promise one to a grower in Texas but couldn’t figure how to legally get it there. Direct handoff suits me better.
Had five, gave one to SB friend.  So I have four. This year I only have one germinated . Waiting !
