Pritchardia from Hawaii to Australia

Featured Replies

Here in Hawaii, some Pritchardia are T&E and one likely could not export seed.  I can’t find any specific regs governing the export of less-threatened Pritchardia species.  Obviously, CITES would have to be consulted.  Does anyone have experience with this?

If it’s on the Bicon list in Australia then a person in Australia can legally import the seeds. If it’s not on the Bicon list most likely due to CITES then it’s a no go, some seeds my not be on CITES but are not on the Bicon most likely due to weed potential or some other obscure reason! So if it’s on the list in Australia you can import them.

Permitted Pritchardia species allowed into Australia

Not all species in Australia are on this list  IE Pritchardia napaliensis which was once, i imported one 2008 with a permit, it spent 2 years in Quarantine, Luckily the napaliensis has been seeding and the seed donated to many germinators here, You will see them for sale at the Pacsoa show next year, and on ebay from local growers soon even in Western Australia but not Tasmania nor Northern territory.
