Winter Wrap Help in zone 8b Dallas Tx

I have had palm trees in the yard since I have lived in Texas. However, over the past 6 years or so. We have had 2 major freezes including the 2021 disaster that decimated the palms around my property. We have decided this year to replace the Pindo's and Texas sables in the back yard. My usual practice over the years was to wrap the trunks for winter but after the last 2 big freezes. This was not enough. So with all new trees in the back yard now. I need to step up my game in palm protection since the DFW area has now changed with regular freezes. I would like to wrap the trees like i saw in TN Tropics video. They had a light weight round enclosure that would work nice to keep some incandescent lights under.

My new plan for winter is to tie up the fronds. Then put some type of plastic chicken wire around them. Then wrap the tree with incandescent mini lights. Then wrap the trunk and fronds with planket from home depot. Next I will put tarp over the fronds and top of plam and secure. I have remote temerature gauge to know when to turn on the lights. Next i would like to cover the whole thing with the round wrap enclosure I seen from TN Tropics video.

Can someone tell me where I can get this cover? It looks light weight and easy to maintain, rather than building a box out of pvc and putting tarp over it.  Looks easy to store.

You have to make it--- For short term under 2 weeks just mummy wrap like you describe above and use possibly a pole to support top with this waterproof cover https://amazon.com/dp/B07N5H1K7M You may need something on end of pole to support cover without puncturing

Palm protection for zones 6-8. Use for adding 1-2 zones of protection for any palm up to 6' tall.

These Trachycarpus fortunei palms can be wrapped like this for 3 months. Outside shell is more for precipitation protection and a little insulation. The heat comes from inside wrapped frost cloth over mini incandescent Christmas lights.

Items needed: 6' cattle fence (Lowes, HD or Amazon or local farm supply)

6' frost cloth roll (Amazon) Pick white or green https://www.homedepot.com/p/Planket-6-ft-x-50-ft-Frost-Cover-Roll-11300/306165164 https://amazon.com/dp/B005CERIZE wrap 2 layers if you want extra protection

Small or medium binder clips (Office supply or Amazon)https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074XTSCWK?th=1

Tent tie downs and stakes (Amazon) https://amazon.com/dp/B08F7G5Z41 https://amazon.com/dp/B07FC3X6XG

21" or so diameter lid (Amazon planter drip pan or water heater drain pan at Hardware store) https://amazon.com/dp/B0CBBRWZ1T

incandescent Christmas mini lights (Lowes in Fall) https://amazon.com/dp/B07H7D8YH3

Use mini lights if mummy wrapping palm inside structure, use C9 lights if not wrapping over palm in structure

35-45 degree thermocube (Amazon) https://amazon.com/dp/B0006U2HD2

For extra protection over top of palm inside structure https://amazon.com/dp/B002XZLH5C

This can be further raised to 9' by adding a 4ft fence and overlapping 1ft and tying together with hog nose pliers/metal clips

Awesome thank you.  I notice your video says up to 6ft for this wrap style. Did you just overlap the material to get to your 12feet on the video? The replacement trees I just planted are pretty good size so I could keep the same vibe in the yard. With the fronds tied up they are about 15ft +.

I will head to home depot and gather some supplies to see if I can dot it while they are still tied up for the next several weeks to come. I'm hoping it works. If not. I may just need to stick tot he mummy wrap as others have had success through the big freeze with that method. I'm not sure why the pole is need if the fronds are tied up. I guess the weight of the tarp will damage the fronds and tilt them over if you dont do that. Here are the size trees I'm trying to prepare in advance for winter.

Those are too big for the cage.  They can be wrapped if needed but you need a big ladder, tie them similar to what they are now then mummy wrap.  Mule Palm 2024 Unwrap.  Butia X Syagrus

Ahh ok. I see how you have it wrapped. That was my original thoughts of how to wrap. They have to be wrapped now due to the cold weather we get here now. I have an eight foot ladder and I was out today to see how I would even attempt such a thing. I think the ladder in your video is a must. It will be a tuff job for one person, but looks it can be done. The pole trick to get the topper on and the poles on the blanket so you can walk around are brilliant. Makes me think I can accomplish the job. Thanks again.

I have called around and got one quote for wrapping at $250/palm so I'm eager to learn to see if I can do it myself.  I may need that big ladder you have I'm thinking as long as I can hang it on the wall in the garage.

Thanks again

That is one of the little giant ladders.  Careful and think about some cold hardier palms to mix in there
