This Butia has been through single digits in Dec 2022 plus our recent ice and snow. Suwanee, GA.

@SeanK Are the two pics of the same butia? They almost look different, I guess the perspective is better in the 2nd pic. I love it!

@SeanK There is a beautiful one in Commerce GA with a slick trunk its been there so long. Near downtown on the corner of Elm and College at a nice Victorian home.

Same palm in both photos. I didn't know Commerce had a downtown square.

I don't but you can view it on Google streetview, on the corner of Elm and College in Commerce. I used to travel thru there regularly years ago. Probably one of the best looking butias north of the fall line cities, in my opinion.

Butias are underrated for cold hardiness. I think they are (arguably) more hardy than palmettos.  They are very popular in SE Virginia and piedmont NC - areas that can struggle with palmettos.
