I really want to get some sabals in the ground but I'm just curious if anyone is planting early?

I have planted them the first week of March here in Pennsylvania. There's no reason you can't in North Carolina i would say go for it!

Thanks! I feel like our temperatures have got pretty decent so I could possibly get away with planting with maybe the occasional frost here and there! :greenthumb:

Yep I think they will be fine but I would wait after this weeks cold like @SeanK said

I did plant seeds early, not plants even though I believe they would make it fine even with a 29F period before spring

Lowest seen: 16F (for a whole day), Highest seen: 105F. Heavy red clay (iron oxide). High humidity area. Amended to 6.5-7PH using Dolomitic lime. (No yearly fertilizer for lawn, just for independent plants). Have: Butia & Jubaea (seedlings), Sabal sp. (unknown for now, some blue some green), Saw Palmetto (seedling), Typical Pindo (large size parent, mine is small), ButiaXSyagrus mule, Sago palms (various size), Hybrid washingtonia filibusta, Sabal minors (4, small), Sabal Pumos (4, seedlings), Sabal Tamaulipas (2 in pots, 1 in ground).

It's really a great podcast , teddy and sabal king of texas are really great people they really know what they're doing! i have ordered from Teddy, numerous times his plants are so good quality Same with sable king of texas.

Yeah, they're good people. I kinda had to bust Teddy's ⚽ 🏈 a little bit because I never knew how much he looked like Seth Rogan, but I just potted up a bunch of stuff in his method.

Any of those palmettos pulling through?  About half of mine are still alive; I moved them into pots and put them under a grow light inside, separate from the other stuff. Still need to find a good solution  for the scale.

Only one has its spear pulled, but I see something down in the hole. The others are still holding on strong, so I have no idea what's going on, but I guess they're doing okay. The ones in the bin are the dudes I want to get into the ground, since the roots are growing out of the nursery bags, two of them were strap leaves I dug up from Bragg Blvd 3 years ago. Its great to finally come full circle and they can go back into the ground continue. 🤠

I actually managed to find a picture of what I brought the bragg blvd sabals home in when I first got them, crazy where they started.

I’ve planted a few Sabals this year but our temps have been in the 70s and 80s for a while. Aside from one cold week we haven’t had a winter.
