TL:DR I have 3 of these sprouted in 1g pots, seed is from @DoomsDave, I've read they hate humidity, and I'm sure I'll have more as time goes on. It's insanely humid here, especially with our land basically being a swamp.

Is $30 plus the ride unreasonable? I'm still waiting until it warms up before I'm willing to ship, I ship UPS Ground. Those labels are fancy, too. That's Dollar General PROFESSIONAL masking tape, not the amateur stuff. IMG_20260218_182630.thumb.jpg.ca1b1860d1588766f050047ac2dca0ee.jpgIMG_20260218_182602.thumb.jpg.cd773ba0ff71d5756cc3d52aa6e8bd31.jpgIMG_20260218_182529.thumb.jpg.9be3e0de6d1bcf44df935bb0a66f42a3.jpg

I'd ideally like to move them before they get any rootier.

The backstory - I need to start wearing one of those glucose meters and even with coupons they're not cheap. My phone of course isn't compatible with the new one and of course they've discontinued the ones my phone will work with, so I need to buy a $65 reader and $75/month for them. The neuropathy is getting into my hands and finger sticks just aren't fun, it either takes me forever to get blood or I can't get it to stop bleeding. Anyway - lmk if that's a fair price, lmk if you're interested. I'm not trying to screw anybody over and I know I owe a lot of people on here favors as well. I've also shipped palms to Brockway, Ogdenville, and North Haverbrook. I'm giving them lots of light and keeping them pretty dry since I read that's what they like.

I just got done watching the Palmcast with @Sabal Kingand @teddytn talking about experimenting and not listening to people say what will and won't work and immediately throw out a feeler because I read these hate swamp. The seeds are slowly popping so I'll keep a couple but priorities are priorities....

That was easy.

Tomorrow I'll dig into my shipping department (repurposed Amazon boxes) and see what I can do. What's your zip? And obvs gonna ship them in their pots. I potted them up 12/31 in coco coir, perlite and a sprinkle of Dr Earth if it matters.

Ooh. How old is this one from seedling? I know they're not rocketships, and you can ballpark if your spreadsheet isn't handy.

It was purchased at a smaller size at the Joint Holiday CFPACS/PBPACS meeting in December 2022.  Not a fast grower, but requires no care.

I need to find something for palms that works the way Banana Fuel works, cuz it sounds like my sprouts are probably 5 years away from being that size.

That sounds about right. Most palms outside of what you find in the big boxes are NOT fast growers and generally take about 5 years or more to produce a saleable 3/5 gallon size plant.  Rare palms are often rare because they are usually too slow growing to be economically feasible to produce for a profit. Hobbyists that grow these rare palms from seed generally aren't looking to make a profit when they end up with extras to sell.

When I came back here from TX, I was gifted a lot from this community to help me recover everything I lost. Brother @DoomsDave sent me some seed, and if you know Dave, when he sends seed he SENDS SEED. I got tons of these and they just started sprouting. I've got more than I could ever use and I don't have the room to grow them all out. I honestly don't know what a fair price is for these as seedlings. I'm very open to trades and I have no issues giving them away as they continue to sprout. I'm up to 4 and I don't think I wanna keep more than 2 or 3. I have no idea how they'll do in this climate.

I would like to join the list for B. edulis when you have them available. I have a lot of room out here in the desert.😁

Welp I think I've got 4 or 5 sprouts right now. They're all pushing their 2nd or 3rd tiny blade of grass fronds and I know I don't have anything deep enough for what they're gonna need. Well, I do have buckets but my bananas are in those.

I for real do not know what a fair price for these is, I've found one record of a sale of these in the last year and it was on here - so shoot me an offer and your zip code. I use UPS through Pirateship so they're not gonna get rerouted through Wisconsin or New Jersey or anything stupid like that.

I’d pot up further sprouts in liners and ship them small and inexpensive.

Best I can do is gallon bags. I think that liner there is the only one that didn't bust on me.

Pirateship is cheap as hell, though. I highly recommend it to everyone for their shipping needs.

I guess I should follow up to this and get completely off topic in hopes of 😲 actually starting a conversation on here. But I watched Episode 2 of @teddytn and @Sabal Kings podcast and they were talking about how they like the bags because they're easier to ship and you can cram more into your areas.

I guess what I should really start doing is throwing what I plan to sell in the bags and what I plan to keep into pots. I still love palms and they'll always be my first love but I'm finding myself getting more and more into tropicals and aroids. The ADHD makes me forget the bags are even there. I shipped a plant in a $250 order in a Wendy's cup once, too.

Absolutely. I'm trying to do more YouTube, getting started on Instagram, and then there's that whole 20 page thread in Palms in Pots.

Fwiw I shipped a giant Chewy cat food box to Miami for $20. That's really not that bad when you think about it. You're right on the liners but the closest I could do right now is McDonald's cups. I've got about 8 billion of them cuz I was trying to win that 10k Lowes gift card during Monopoly and now they're doing 99 cent iced coffee. I don't want to uproot anything that's settled in, but moving forward I'll throw them in McDs cups and an old Wellspring box if that makes a difference. I'm getting a sprout a week of these or so.

John, have you considered carnivorous plants? Sarracenia "Scarlet Belle" or a standard Venus flytrap would be a good start. They would thrive outdoors year-round in Mississippi as well.

You know what's funny? That specific one was on the freebie list from Wellspring when I placed my order on Monday. We need a plant that eats spider mites.
