Hello! Does anyone know if majesty palm heart would be worth it to try? I love fresh heart of palm but I’ve only got the chance to try it once and just a tiny bit from a sprouted coconut. I have way too many majesty palms and I wanna get rid of one or two. I also tried some of a chamaedorea elegans and it made my mouth go numb, no side effects becides that though. I’ve also been trying to figure out if any palms are toxic. Yes I know fishtail palms are not good to eat because of crystals but that doesn’t mean it’s toxic. I mean life threatening toxic. I’ll do more studies too.

I recall that Orania seeds are poisonous.

I have eaten 'hearts of palm' from Howea forsteriana and Rhopalostylis sapida.  Both were rather insipid and greatly improved by olive oil and balsamic vinegar !  Also, the immature spadix of R. sapida, same observation.

looks fancy i bet someone out there has done research on the best tasting hearts. i think coconuts and peach palm or other bactris are the most common and best tasting. i have been looking at orania to, im not sure if the fruit is toxic but the heart and seeds are maybe the only toxic palm genus. You should try to pickle the hearts if you ever do it again.

To me palm heart feels like a really wasteful crop. To grow a palm for idk 5 years at least just to cut it down and harvest 1% of its edible tissue is pretty sad. I’m sure it was probably some survival food originally that just my opinion. I think there would be way better crops to farm.
