I found this small botanical garden and was surprised to find quite a few unique palms there . I still appreciate when i find something where i have no idea what species. My first thought on this on was something in the Bactris genus, but then my mind went to Pigafetta. Only 2 species in that genus . Is it Pigfetta filaris?  There are minimal tags there

Spines on a cactus is one thing, but that many spines on a palm is just wrong! 🤷‍♂️😆

A happy Metroxylon vitiense enjoying its spot in the garden.

Seems to have been there a while, would be cool to know how long. It has a lot of growing to do and the room to do it. Those patterned spines are always fun to photograph.

Thanks Ryan ! Just looked it up and for sure that’s it. I’ll put a plastic tag on it for others next time i visit

I thought spines looked like fierce sets of fake eyelashes 🤣
