I just found out my small butia had a partial spear pull and chamaerops had a full spear pull and I’m not sure how I should treat it because if the weather. Should I do do strictly a copper fungicide or?

Small specimen like that are very susceptible to spear damage. A shot of H₂O₂ and Cu fungicide will help with arresting the continuance of the damage. Keep the crown dry & insulated from freezing temps.

I’m irritated because I bought little tents the beginning of this month and they haven’t even shipped for the very purpose of protecting this 🙁

What percentage of hydrogen should I use?

thanks!

I have had that on a sabinara, i didnt worry to much about it. I guess the hydrogen peroxide or copper spray treatment or drench  is at least one thing you could do. I use a systemic fungicide for control of any such issues, prevention is better than the cure they say!

It got really super cold 2 nights and I guess that's what contributed to my issue, I just wanna make sure the rot doesn't decide to spread. I'm gonna go get a bin to pop over it and some copper fungicide and throw Christmas lights around it.

I'm kind of afraid to use hydrogen only for the fact it will turn back into water.

I get the same issue in the cold, not so much frost damage but a fungus issue related to the cold weather hence the foliar  fungicide treatment, the one I use is called Agrifos not sure what’s available in your country.

Not sure if I have quick access to that if I could get my hands on it, it was 17F (-8.3C) and then slightly warmer the next day. I only have a blanket covering it.

Minus 8 whoa  that’s cold, sounds like freeze damage, as you know now you have to be aware of fungal infection after such a freeze and partial spear pull. Have a quick google and look at Agrifos it should come up, and then try to find another product with the same active ingredient worth a try. But go with your first remedy of copper or peroxide. Wort a shot better than losing your palm.

Would this work, I think it’s the same type of thing? Also if I’ve used copper fungicide last week so if I get this, when would I need to apply this and also how do you apply it?

Not sure on the question you’re asking, do you mean the systemic fungicide, I apply it about every 3 weeks foliar spray. It’s more of a preventative measure which is what it’s all about.

Oh sorry, I was asking if this was similar to Agrifos, like the ingredients, my palm has had a full spear pull and I’ve applied copper fungicide last week so if I got this product I’m unsure if using that product with the existing copper fungicide residue would cause issues.

I still don’t know if I’m making sense 😂

Yes it is the same thing agrifos 400 and 600, it should be ok to use together.
We also at work put 2 litres to 1000 litres of liquid fertiliser, and it’s put through a Venturi hydroponic drip system on fruit trees.
You don’t need to make cents, you want to save your dollars by not having dead palms, this makes sense🤣🌱

Oh ok thanks! Ill go ahead and buy it! Ill also break out my Venturi Hydroponic drip system that I just have laying around 😂 that being said having irrigation would be a dream to me. my palms in summer get what comes from the sky and maybe when I throw the hose down and if I bother to move it around to evenly water everything. 😂

I’m a little afraid to water as of now since the temperatures are starting to head into the 20s soon (-6C) I’ve never understood how to water in winter. So I normally don’t unless we get a warm stretch.

Yes water in winter is a tricky one, I made the mistake a warm day, oh great I can water I think only to get the coldest morning in winter the next day in my greenhouse. Plants slow down in winter and the metabolic rate is down. Along with Farouk temperatures. Winter watering I try to leave up to the rain. Minus 6 that’s too cold for my gardening style I admire your determination!

Don't water where you are in winter, especially on a spear pulled palm
