You can grow Chamaedorea Elegans directly in water.

For those who did not know. I've grown this Chamaedorea Elegans directly in the top of my aquarium for a couple of years now. It's done great! It's a great way to grow out those small grass tuffts they sell for cheap at the box store.

Interesting, not a species I would expect to thrive in those conditions!  Did you change the medium first or is it in the same medium that came with it when you bought it?

I washed out the old substrate and put it in lava rock (to support the plant). The roots are just in the water. The roots over time have actually grown down to the Aquarium's substrate.

Woah this is so cool, you won't forget to water this 😂 What's your Aquarium's substrate?

I've seen them for sale as fishtank plants at Petsmart, I just didn't think they'd grow THAT much. Fish poop is such a great fertilizer there's actually a brand of liquid fertilizer sold on Amazon called - you guessed it - Fish Poop.

I'm using Fluval Stratum, but frankly your results will be fine regardless, because the roots are pulling nutrients directly from the water column.
