These are 2 hybrid phoenix roebelenii x reclinata, they look very similar to roebelenii, they are identical, only one has a single stem, while the other is very suckers

I have seen the single trunk hybrid in Ventura before and it was a very nice looking palm , about 4m tall like a mini Date palm. Those are cool looking hybrids . Harry

@gyuseppe can you post detailed pictures of the spines along the petioles? I think the spines (size and arrangement) are the features which distinguish roebeclinata from reclinalenii...

I admire my phoenix from away and don’t work my ones, it’s those deadly spines on them that hurt when they get you!

Richard, you forget that Konstantinos and I don't have much choice here when it comes to hybridizing or producing palm seeds.
Lucky you, you can grow almost anything, but in reality I'm happy with what I can grow, also because if I could grow more species, I wouldn't have the space, my garden isn't very big, and I'm lucky to have a small garden, almost everyone here lives in condominiums.

Ok here is the reverse cross with two picture focusing on the spines. I think they are more roebelenii-like.

Imo roebelenii has formidable spines only small in size in accordance to leaf's size.

And this is loureiroi x roebelenii: smaller in size with more upright fronds.

@gyuseppe,  here are close ups of the spines in my female roebelenii. Do you copy, how strongly radiating they are arranged? Usually greenhouse grown specimens (offered in the market) and used as indoor plants have a thinner, longer and parallel arranged spines, but outdoors in full sun is a different story.

Richard, One of my Phoenix hybrids has spines that are no more dangerous than blades of grass. Honestly! They are soft and very bendable.

One advantage to the hybrid I guess, less spikes to get you. Are they still poisonous I wonder.

Here is my Phoenix loureiroi x roebelenii grown from seed provided by @Phoenikakias.  I'm wondering if it will eventually sucker since I don't know if the loureiroi is solitary but I hope that it remains solitary!  😊

Mother loureiroi is a very weakly suckering specimen.

It rarely produces an odd sucker, which almost always dies back. Up to now after 30+ years only one offshoot survives, which is stunted. So practically it is a solitary specimen.

My phoenix loureiroi humilis has a single trunk and no suckers.

And taller too. Mine is either by genetics shrubby or just painfully slow. There is an impressive variability in this sp.

@Fusca to get an idea, this is the oldest and sole surviving offshoot of my loureiroi. It is obviously stunted. It is so old, that it has started blooming regularly but stems height does not exceed my ankle.
