Hello guys, I recently bought a California fan palm. It’s about 4 feet tall. It’s in a pot. I have it in my greenhouse. I watered it a couple times, but it seems like all the fronts are starting to yellow up when I first got it. Everything was green temps get to get into the upper 40s normally in the 50s at night seemed like it started happening after watering. Any ideas what could be causing this any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's hard to tell without pics and even then it's kind of a guessing game without knowing more. How long have you had it, you mentioned greenhouse maybe it's a lighting issue, maybe the pot doesn't have adequate drainage, maybe the plant just secretly resents you, I mean there's lots of possibilities. Too much water with no drainage will kill a plant quick, especially in cooler temps so that's my expert guess.

Good lighting for sure it’s been hot 70s in the day good drainage to.i do have a red heat light not directly above it but near it for colder nights not sure if it’s that that’s causing it.

You def don't need that for 40s and 50s for a Washie. They're tough little boogers. I'm far from an expert but maybe you're inadvertently cooking it. Ugh I forget his name, but if you're in ABQ there's a dude on here with some that lived through 5°. In a pot is a different story but I dunno how cold it gets in your greenhouse.

Go easy on the watering for now, too. It's not gonna evaporate or dry out as fast. Meanwhile it's a freaking sauna in my grow room right now 😂

Yeah, I definitely keep the humidity down and dry and warm in there, but I will take that light off and ease up on the watering. What would you say to water it like once a month?

Just check it with your finger. You don't want to let it dry out, but the water isn't going to be absorbed or evaporate nearly as quickly as it does when it's warm. I'm still watering all the time but my grow room is also 85 degrees right now. It's a learning curve and there aren't really any right answers or routines. Just water it when it's dry down to your 2nd knuckle. If the soil sticks to your dry fingers, it's still moist.
