Foxtail help needed

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, need some advice what to do (if anything) with 2 large foxtails.

They both have been struggling for a while, actually never really looked right since they were planted. Never filled in, always had frond breaking or just having only a few.

At this point the new ones are failing on one of them and the other doesnt look that great either.

This part of our house is in the shade and happens to be where the water runoff is between mine and my neighbors house. So it tends to get a lot of water.

Any ideas? Or are these dead?

My HOA landscaping company is saying they are not going to make it. And I also have another 2 Christmas palms that need to be transplanted from the backyard. So need to decide to save these or to move 2 of the Christmas palms in their place.

They don’t like wet feet ( constant wet soil ) . They like heat , so would do better in a dry , sunny location with more infrequent watering. I don’t know if they are dying , I’ve seen worse . If there is a way to divert the water run off , that would help. Here in Southern California they need the sunniest location in the yard with really good drainage . They can be finicky to grow. edit : almost forgot , Welcome to Palm Talk!

Thanks for the info.

Anything else I can do to give them a boost outside the water diverting?

Also, how would Montgomery Palms do in their place?

Thank you!

I think if they were allowed to dry out just a bit between watering , that should do it . As I said , they really don’t look like they are in a critical state just yet. Harry
