A good cold front is set to move through Saturday. Lows Sunday and Monday night both forecasted to be 32F. We will see what happens, not all models are sold on a freeze for either night just yet but confidence on a freeze here (if any) is definitely higher for Monday night.

Medium to long range modeling still suggesting favorability for arctic air outbreaks mid to late month, the question is how far south the cold is able to reach. Far from a guarantee for stupid cold on the Gulf Coast at this point in time, could just turn out to be a long stretch of light freezes. Monitoring as time goes on.

It's gonna be a chilly week here:

Sunday night - 33F
Monday night - 32F
Tuesday night - 42F
Wednesday night - 37F
Thursday night - 31F
Friday night - 39F

Model guidance suggests another cold front moves in next Sunday. There's also been some hints at some precipitation other than rain next Sunday. Would be interesting if it happened. Nothing is guaranteed, very possible that it just remains dry here once the cold arrives. The coldest air of the season could follow and I wouldn't be shocked to see it get down into the low to mid 20s here (lowest I've observed so far is 26F for the season).

I will be stringing lights on the Queens tomorrow just as a precaution. It may not be necessary, but I would like to have that part done so it will hopefully not take so long to get everything covered if it does become necessary. Monitoring the forecast as always over the next couple of weeks.

I saw 33 this morning also. Caught me off guard since it was still over 40 at midnight when I went to sleep. Had left my potted bottle and foxtails outside. They should be alright but that’s the coldest I’ve ever left them out. They say 36 tonight for me but that’s what they said last night so I brought them in this time.

27 this morning with heavy frost. About 10-13 degrees warmer across the bay to the south in the warmest microclimates of Destin and Santa Rosa Beach though! Classic radiational freeze temperature distribution here.

I'm beginning to get a little concerned for Thursday night here. While the forecast only shows 28F right now, just a little ways up the road is showing 24F. Monitoring that very closely as it could very easily drop to 25F or lower here that night. Otherwise, this weekend is becoming more interesting with some guidance trending towards a greater moisture presence upon the arrival of freezing temperatures Saturday night into Sunday morning. Watching that closely as well. Regardless of any potential snow chances, multiple nights of freezing temperatures are in store for the Panhandle over the next 7 days and likely beyond.

Many places up north have experienced a lot of snow and a more typical winter this year, so I guess we get to deal with multiple shots like the past instead of one or even none. All light so far, but this setup is a bit unique/strong so I expect more issues this time and lower temps than the last two.  Good luck everyone!

It does suck, but it is typical and there are quite a few palms that don't mind these types of fronts.  There are a lot fewer that mind 1985 or 1989, though. The silver lining is that High 20s/Low 30s is better than High teens/Low 20s.

Im not quite as worried about Thursday night now as I was. Forecast still calls for 28F, but areas further inland have warmed a little bit in recent forecasts. The place to be in NW FL Thursday night though will definitely be Pensacola Beach:

FL_Temp3.png.90a54f1fef2a7d1149f955bdcda46f50.png
(These maps are hidden under the "Local Forecast Maps" button on the main page)

As far as those snow chances go here, well, the NWS is now biting. There is now a 20% chance of rain/snow showers early Sunday morning across a good portion of the Panhandle. Some model guidance today have even trended towards some significant accumulations, but I'm not quite buying those at the moment. Watching this closely as time moves forward and things become clearer.

It's interesting though how these low temps are nothing compared to the coldest outbreaks we've had the last 3 winters. In many of the events in the last 3 winters (Dec 2022, Jan 2024, Jan 2025+snow), there was a significant push of the arctic air that had teens in some parts and a hard freeze (sub-26 deg) to the beaches.

Definitely interesting. The deep cold just hasn't been able to push that far south yet this season without meeting return flow on its way down. Hopefully that continues for the sake of my Queens. I am now expecting a low of 24F for Sunday night, might get sketchy. We shall see.

I've attached NWS Miami forecast numbers so you North Floridians might not feel quite so bad.  Sealing Wax Palms,  Pigafettas and all the zone 10b/11 zone pushing stuff no likey 43.  My forecast low on Tampa's peninsula tonight is 38F.  When the impactful fronts clear the entire state and bring down the chill, the temp differences aren't so remarkable north to south or east to west.  We're all in one big, happy, cold family 🤪🤣.

The left hand column are tonight's forecast lows

The current forecast for my area is around 32 tonight.  Of course, I listened to the radio on the way home and they were freaking out about 26 in Sanford!  Apparently their forecaster thinks that Sanford is super near Jax...sigh...

I put a cardboard box over an Arenga Westerhoutii that took some significant frost damage in the December front, and another box over a Corypha Lecomtei just because.  Otherwise it's Darwinism at work, and hopefully all the freshly sprouted weeds (er...hardy imported and native annuals and perennials) take the brunt of it!

My forecast is either 34, 33, 31, or 29 depending on what source it's from.  The tempest weather station is lowest and forecasts 4 hours below freezing and more than one at 29. Hopefully not, but I'm sure the frost will come and do more damage later on.  I have hated January ever since I can remember, from chilly rainy days in California to Montana blizzards to blue northers on the plains and now freezes here... Yeah January just sucks.  Hopefully the 34 from bay news 9 pans out and I get lucky🤞. Good luck this next 5 days everyone!

It is 53 in hudson beach amd Miami...... lol wind direction and water makes such a difference. Winds are shifting slowly and we will lose the help. But it should  reduce the amount of hours below 40 and below freezing if we get there. I still take that as a win.

28.9 here for about ten minutes on the tempest station, and now 29 again and has been for a bit.  Back yard cheap sensor in the open is 27. Inland much worse of course, but no frost on plants.  I seem to hit a narrow lowest temp range every winter so far, upper 20s and low 30s, so about as expected just not as I hoped.  Now for Monday

Been a long time lurker of this forum and finally decided to make an account to share the freezing conditions at my parents' home - wunderground stations show 22-23°F while the weather channel displayed 24-25°F

My personal hygrometer didn't drop below 27.5°F and my Alfies still look green on camera (I am away from there at the moment).

We seem to be in a location where the cold "funnels in" from the northwest (lucky us!) so I did my best to plant the Alfies on the south side of the home. They already took two shots down to 26°F this winter but this has to be undoubtedly the coldest morning this far.  The hygrometer is reporting 5.5 hours below freezing and counting, but at least we're on the upswing now. I will say, I am thoroughly impressed this far on how these 15 gal trees have faired thus far. Fingers crossed, knock on wood!

Welcome to PalmTalk!  I've been super impressed by my original 5 Alfies, taking minimal damage down to ~25F with frost.  They get some leaf burn and some yellow Magnesium-tipping deficiencies after cold snaps, but generally sail right through upper 20s with ease.

My yard hit a low of 27.5F with not-quite-snowlike frost, but pretty close!  That's a lot colder than the local airport, once again!  I think the delta between my house and the airport really is tied to windspeed.  This time they recorded 31F for a 1 hour dip about 7AM, but I was below 30 for at least 3 or 4 hours this morning.  As in previous windless cold fronts, my front yard is around 2F warmer than the back yard.  I'm glad I put a box over the Arenga Westerhoutii and Corypha Lecomtei "big seedlings."  I will probably do the same on Sunday night.
