Spent yesterday planting a few LHI palms down here in the sub-subtropics:

H belmoreana ×3, Hedyscepe x 4, Lepidorrachis x 8.  A few H forsteriana to come later.

Weather was perfect for planting, still, overcast, humid and mild - my only regret is that I'm a bit sore this morning!

Yea , I’d be sore too! Thats a lot of holes to dig . You need @happypalms earth auger that he attaches to his tractor! Good job , as we say here in America , we don’t have the ‘Roos to worry about but we have plenty of other creatures to worry about. Harry🐀🦌🌴

Yes...and to pile some insult on top of the injury, I dug the big ones up a year ago, so it's second time around!

I would love to get my hands on some Lepidorrhachis. They put in a few at the Strybing not long ago and I wonder where they got them.

I don't know where they would have got them, but I have a theory!

The seeds are almost never available and you have to be very lucky basically. I don't know of a source anywhere at the moment...hopefully in 20 years I'll have my own!

Well that's a big help ! Your seeds will arrive about the same time as the new submarines and most of PT people will be dead anyway by then.

And probably me too...so I'll have to bury a treasure map in a bottle and hope someone can find them in the future!

The war will be over by the time the submarines get here! And by the time the time they do get here it will Star Wars with Luke and Vader!

That’s going to look so good mate! Already something special; there wouldn’t be many (if any) dedicated LHI palm gardens with multiples of all 4 species in the ground in Australia or anywhere. I’ll put in my order early for Hedy and Lepi seeds in 20 years 🙂

Noted...how many?

Oh, and I'll probably be dead anyway according to @peachy, so just fly down and help yourself!

Hey Rich...yep, there were many more in that batch of seed that are no longer with us.

I've got a couple of much older and bigger ones in the ground that are cranking along nicely, as does @Tassie_Troy1971 so we'll see. I'm hoping that our consistently cool night temps make a difference.

Interestingly I've never lost one in the ground but plenty in pots. Others have had the reverse experience, so, yep, temperamental!

Awww you’re young, shake it off! Well if Peachy is correct, you might want to dig a couple of long rectangular holes just in case,

That said, over the years that’s going to be a beautiful little forest, hopefully we’ll get to see it next year.
