Hello everyone,

I have a Wallichia disticha planted in the ground, and to my surprise, I’ve just noticed what seems to be a new shoot emerging only about 3 cm from the main trunk.

From what I know, W. disticha is supposed to be a solitary palm, so I found this quite unexpected. It’s definitely not a seedling — I don’t have any fruiting specimens nearby — so it looks like a basal or adventitious shoot coming directly from the main plant.

Has anyone here ever experienced this with Wallichia disticha or seen a similar case?

Did the new shoot develop into an independent stem, or did it eventually die back?

Any insight or personal experience would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Rafael

Pictures would be helpful to give better judgement, and because it would be cool to see anyway!

I am surprised but it is definitely an arenga. Cylindrical stem, my mistake. Thanks all for your inputs. Unbelievable mistake of mine,
