First time posting in the “pots” thread. Imma call this my first real attempt at overwintering palms in pots. Last year I lost most everything not in-ground, but also wasn’t prepared or as knowledgeable as I am today.

We added an EasyBreeze sliding panel system to our back porch this spring (not just for the plants, but it’s a plus). It basically acts as a heated greenhouse right now. Low temps are averaging 15 degrees warmer than outside. Getting about 3-4 hours of direct sun, currently. Warming up the room to low 80s.

I’ve read that I need to keep most tropical at least 50 degrees or s

o. I’ll most likely have to do something different  in December as we start to freeze. I’m thinking just the garage for a month or 2?

Nice little collection, zone 8 to me would be like living in a freezer. I will stick with my subtropical climate for now. In winter try and keep everything as warm as possible.

@NC-Key-Bar if you go the garage route, Walmart has some great little cheap shop lights if you need a couple. I think I've got 5 or 6 of them in my grow room right now. Oddly enough the cheap ones are better suited for plants than the expensive ones are per growers on Reddit. Here at least they're $16 and change each.

Added some festive lights to the indoor, and outdoor, palms.

L. Chineisis and Sarracinea pot up top (left).  Then a CIDP,  W. filbusta "Fayetteville",  and potted agave on the middle row.  And some small agave and seedlings I'm growing on the bottom.
The Colocasia "gigantea" is the family favorite right now.  New leaves are about 24inches wide, and get a new one every 3 weeks.

I ordered a small heater with a built-in thermostat for about $100.  It's been able to keep the indoors about 30 degrees above outdoor lows, and not cost a ton to operate.  Daytime temps indoors hover around 70.
