Hi palm lovers alike, I have 2 of these beautiful palms but can’t remember what they are. Been in ground for 20 ish years, Queensland, Australia. Black stems, spineless, glossy smooth large leaves.

We have had an extremely dry season and it’s struggling. Normally glossier

Any identification tips would be appreciated 🌿❤️

Do you know much about them. I’ve been searching posts for info. our palm has seeds, do all species produce seeds but without a male they are not fertile. The other one we have might be a male?

Hi Jodie. Yes, you will need a male and a female to produce viable seed. If you post a photo of your other palm we’ll be able to tell if it’s male, the inflorescences are quite distinctive.

Morning, the cup had the seeds. The big white seed, is that the fruit? This is the other palm. Same time inground. It looks the same.

I have read that the fruit has 1to 2 seeds in it. These tiny yellow pods that were on it, are they the seeds but just dehydrated and not growing? Does the palm get seeds whether male or female but they are not fertile if no male present. Thanks for your insight

Looking at your previous photo the one large white round fruit looks like the right size to contain a viable seed but the other fruits don't look right.  I think Tim was hoping to see a flower on the palm in order to tell male plant from female plant but I could be wrong!  😆

The other has never had anything. I’ll wait for the next batch of seeds that comes through. Thanks everyone 🙏🏼🌈

You know, sometimes a dioecious palm sets some viable seed without a male anywhere around. I’ve seen it with Bismarckia and Trachycarpus.  I would still try germinating those seed and if any sink in water there’s a good chance it may still come up. You just may not get a great germination percentage but you have tons there. It’s worth a try.

Doesn’t look like your second plant is mature yet Jodie.

But, as others have noted, occasionally a single dioecious palm can set viable seed so worth a go if you have fully formed seed. The big white fleshy thing is the fruit of Kerriodoxa. The seed will be inside and should be hard if viable.
