Aloha,

I’m a property manager for a private estate with over 100 palms — about 50 coconuts, 20 royals, and 30 foxtails. I’m well-versed in insecticides, pesticides, etc. As I’ve been involved in horticulture most of my life. The palms are heavily infested, so I purchased a Quick Jet Air with #4 plugs, some Ace-Jet (acephate), and IMA-Jet 10 (imidacloprid). I’ve never injected before, but I’ve watched all the training videos and feel confident I can handle it. I just have a few questions and would appreciate any input from those with more experience. My plan is to wait until the trees are actively transpiring. How do you all handle it when the palms are water-loaded? I know IMA-Jet can get thick and uptake can be affected if mixed with water. Also, what’s your ideal drilling height? Arborjet recommends 1–3 feet from the ground, but I’ve noticed most coconuts here are injected around 4–4½ feet. What height do you find ideal for coconuts royals and foxtails? Next, since foxtails have a slightly different vascular system, what method do you prefer for them? as ive heard different methods. Lastly, because Ace-Jet is mixed with water and IMA-Jet isn’t, my plan is to drill two holes — one for each product — so the water in the Ace-Jet doesn’t affect the IMA-Jet. How long should I wait between injections, or can I inject from the opposite side, one hole slightly higher than the other? if so what product would you inject first?

Appreciate any help or insight — I’m a plant nerd and love learning new things!

Mahalo,

Jim
