While catching up on farm maintenance after an amazing IPS adventure in Peru, I spied two garden gifts.

My only Licuala sallehana v. sallehana has two flower spines.

It bloomed once before without making seed but maybe this will be the year?

I would like a group of these!

Nearby I see that my Geonoma pauciflora is also trying to reproduce.

Any gifts of surprise flowers/fruits from your palms recently?

Couple of nice ones there. I just love sallehana palms. But the most surprising thing for me this week was my wallichia distichia flower. Totally amazing and two flowers this time round.

Yes. My various Coccothrinax species flower sporadically throughout the year, but only produce seed when temps are mid 90's F or lower during the 2 day flowering cycle. Currently have borhidiana hybrid and macroglossa with mature seeds. (also,if I don't bag the seeds, nature ALWAYS makes them disappear) 😄

Hay un par de bonitas. Me encantan las palmeras sallehana. Pero lo que más me sorprendió esta semana fue mi flor de wallichia distichia. ¡Increíble! ¡Esta vez con dos flores!

I’d keep an eye on those two spines and watch for any swelling or color change; my Licuala only set seed after the second bloom cycle. The Geonoma nearby might help with humidity.

Those flower spines sound like a good sign, especially if the plant skipped seeding last time. My Licuala finally set a few after a similar false start, so fingers crossed yours does the same. I usually just take a slow walk around the garden with some christmas tree candles going on the porch to keep the vibe calm, and it helps me notice little things like your Geonoma popping up where I didn’t expect it.
