Caryota mitis - another bargain

Featured Replies

After stopping briefly at the store this afternoon to look for soil, my bargain hunter spotted

this Caryota mitis for 25 USD.

She spoke briefly with a gardener and ended up getting the palm tree for 20 USD.

I was speechless and amazed ...

Tom, I can grow this caryota, but in winter it must be kept under a roof.

Great palm . They prefer a more shady location here . The ones I have in the sun get burnt but grow well. The shade grown ones are very nice . Every few years I cut the flowering trunks out of the clump and it continues to send out pups. Probably easier to control in pots. HarryIMG_3603.thumb.jpeg.2fcbddc12d30e947b8cabae7b00532a1.jpeg

‘This was over a year ago after I cut 2 6’ tall flowering stems. It has been there many years and has recovered from this cutting . It has now regained most of its size. It cruises through the lows of about 40f . Very rare that it gets that cold here , and only for a couple of hours .

…..and that is a very good deal on that one you have , happy growing!😄

Caryota Mitis. Very cool my Friend🌴🌴🌴

My local home depot sells them for only 25$. First time I saw it I bought it haha. Surprisingly they seem to be a regular product now. Probably my favorite palm in the garden right now.

Sabine reacted similar like you, she said this palm is so special and when she saw it, she wanted it without longer thinking about ...

You’re going to need a bit of space to grow this one. Should do well for you though.

Yes , indeed! I have one out front that makes a barrier or wall . It just gets so thick . Like the others but much taller . I think , for limited space , the pot is a good idea. Harry
