Caryota Gigas Removal - It Was Time

Recommended Posts

After 22 years, or so, of spectacular leaf spreads I had to say goodbye to my beloved Gigas.  Two seed spathes dropped and no growth in over a year.  It was time.

I used a company called Arkadia ( https://yourarkadia.com/) .  They did a great job!  Very proffessional, on time, clean and left without a trace.

Oh wow 22 years, looks like it was a stout one! Do you have any shots of it in its heyday?

Wow! What a job they did! We had ours taken out a few years ago. It was "only" about 10 years in the ground but was a monster. I'm so glad we did it when we did!

IT WAS.  Massive leaves and super green.

Ill check I know I do.  I will have to find the picture of the day I planted it.  My little girls were standing next to it.  Both 'little girls' are now married and living their lives.  Time passes too quickly.

WOAH that one was massive.  Yours look a bit taller than mine was.  Nice leaf spread yours had too.

Fortunate that you had the sense to plant it where it would be easily accessible. That photo showing the internal grain, wow! Unique and beautiful! Did you save a slice for a souvenir? 😄😎  The empty space makes that bench look a bit lonesome. Plans?

So glad you were able to enjoy this beautiful species and then with good planning and a good company to help all went smoothly.

I did consider space for removal when I planted mine, but I seriously doubt I can hire professionals here in rural PR.

At least it is acres away from my house and any hardscape so can probably direct its fall somewhat with ropes when the time comes.

Or maybe a worry for whoever eventually ends up with my farm.
