Here’s a few nice seedlings that come off the happypalms propagation bench! Sometimes you do win a few rare ones, it’s not all gloom and doom!

My friend Richard, Trachycarpus takil was discovered and described by the Italian Odoardo Beccari, who brought the seeds to the botanical gardens of Florence and Rome. In my opinion, all the seeds sold are hybrids and not 100% takil, given that this species is very rare (obviously this is my opinion).

Another nice batch . They should be good in those pots for about a year or so. Do you wait until the roots start to appear in the drainage hole before you bump them up? Harry

Interesting bit of information, it was a seeds handed to me by Colin Wilson. And if he has the seeds they are the real deal to me.

Yes some good ones in that batch. I usually wait until you can repot when they have sufficient roots, if the mix falls away when repotting they are not ready to pot up.

Growing palms they seem to do better when pot bound, then repot, you can jump the gun a bit if you use the correct size container for the seedlings you’re working, sometimes skipping a container size if pot bound.

The seeds Colin has should be original, next time I call him please tell him where he got them (I'm not looking for seeds of these, because I don't have any more space in the garden, but I'm always looking for chamaedorea seeds !)

I think the story goes that batches of T ‘takil’ starting 15-20 years ago or so turned out to be T fortunei ‘Nainital’. I believe the confusion has now been resolved and recent T takil batches should be true and can be confirmed as seedlings vs fortunei.

Tim  Let's hope now that those they sell are really Takil, but I repeat I'm skeptical, you can only find the originals in the botanical gardens of Rome and Florence, but even there they could be hybrid seeds, because there are other species of Trachycarpus, obviously this is my opinion

It was a Colin Wilson seed so iam pretty confident it’s takil!
