The winter zone push losers again!

Featured Replies

When they don’t like the cold a palm will let you know in one quick winter real fast. You gotta try, it’s kinda like giving a long distance relationship a go when you both live halfway around the globe from each other, you just gotta give it a go if you don’t try you will never know and be left with that what if question! Well you just have to try,  that way you will know and won’t be left asking yourself what if!

Richard, if you only knew how many species I tried and they died from the cold, but I always grew them from seed, so that I didn't lose a lot of money.

I could only imagine how many, if it’s anything like I have I know the feeling. When it comes to my garden it’s an investment for my retirement years!

Oh my , those are d-e-a-d , no longer with us , deceased .
No they’re not , they’re just sleeping , look I can see them moving!
From Monty Python , dead parrot skit .
Sorry Richard , I don’t mean to make light of your loss . It always hurts to lose them but maybe a bit of British humor to cheer you up ….or …..you could try taking a switch ( stick) and beat up your car like Basil Fawlty!
At least now you have a good idea what won’t make winter . I think your “ wins “ far out weigh your losses. That is how gardening is if you venture out of the norm . My wife introduced a beautiful new Fuscia to our courtyard and it was gorgeous with an abundance of pretty flowers . Our friends remarked how good it was growing . I told them “ enjoy it now , the first real summer temp will take it out” . Sorry to say I was right . Harry

Richard, I have tried about ten syagrus, but the only one that is left and will remain is the romanzoffiana.

Harry, here the Fuchsias can be grown but they must be kept in the shade.

Lol the dreaded long distance relationship. When I worked for the airline, I flew up to Baltimore. I didn't realize she was living with her dad, it never came up in conversation - but she had just gotten a divorce and she didn't think he'd approve of some guy from Texas she met on Facebook spending the night lol. Well, grown up things happened and I missed the last flight home to Houston. Spent the night in the airport, and it got a little chilly. The airport staff was super nice to me, and they let me sleep in the Meditation Room where it was warmer. Yes, the Baltimore airport has a Meditation Room.

Fun times.

Syagrus are fairly tough palms. It’s unfortunate you live in such a hard environment where exotic palms struggle. There are hundreds of beautiful palms, yet the cold weather dictates to where most will live.

I dodged a bullet. I am attracted to the worst women on the planet.
