As a Saints fan who went to Mississippi State, I'm prepared to be monumentally disappointed this year. I was kind of looking forward to watching other college games, but now with the transfer portal and NIL money, it's... I dunno, it just doesn't feel right. I don't have any issues with college players getting paid, they deserve it - but there's college quarterbacks making more money than NFL playoff quarterbacks, and that's just insane.

Anyway, Who Dat, Hail Damn State, and I guess I'm already looking forward to MLB 2026.

The Cubs have played like horse poop since mid June. Lol they either score 10 runs or 1. And their biggest trade deadline acquisition barely lasted longer than Aaron Rodgers did his first year with the Jets. Trading for injured or Tommy John recovering pitchers is the Jed Hoyer way.

A lot of those Tommy John’ed pitchers around… Picking one up is like getting an old retread tire.. It might work out for you, or it leave you along side the road… The Dodgers have a few of those too….

I was reading another doom and gloom thread on Cubs Twitter, and the Brewers have picked up 12 or 13 games on the Cubs in the last month and a half without any real superstars and sloppy defense. Lol obviously it wasn't the brilliant mind of Craig Counsell that led to all of their division titles. But our only hope is that they're peaking way too early and inevitably have to come crashing down, and there's no way the Cubs bats all stay this cold forever.

And we Cubs fans are also very bitter that PCA isn't getting much national notoriety as an MVP candidate, and the fact that the Cubs kept all of their stud minor league outfielders kinda leads us to think Kyle Tucker isn't going to get resigned and the kid we traded for him is crushing it in Houston. Meanwhile the Ricketts keep buying up properties all around the stadium, tickets are some of the most expensive around because ownership knows they'll fill the seats even if they just put a mediocre product on the field every year for a one and done Wild Card playoff loss. 35k+ people are gonna be in the stands every single game regardless of the results.

Nothing like getting ready for college football to start when it's 98°F outside!  I agree, since the pay-for-play and transfer portal silliness I have lost a lot of interest.  Ohio State proved that a championship can be bought just like the Yankees have been trying to do for decades.  Blah!

Don't get me started on Michigan in NCAAF. They ruled it wouldn't be fair to punish the current coaches and players for what the last staff did, but Akron (who, let's be real here, isn't going to make the playoffs anyway) has a postseason ban because a tutor helped players out a little bit more than she said she helped them out years ago. Ok I guess I got started.

Anyway all of my teams are going to be terrible this year so let's roll.

It's cool(er), it's raining, I slept all day, and there's a bunch of small time college football games on ESPN+. Temperatures vary depending on what app or website I choose, but I'm gonna go with high 60s... Nature is healing.

I feel bad for the average college football fan of this century.

When I went back to Big State U in the late 1980s, I could walk into the stadium w/o advance tickets for $2. At season start, we'd buy beers and watch, late-season it was coffee or hot chocolate. I think by the end of my studies we paid $4 but beer was no longer sold 😭.

Ofttimes, I would see 3 generations of family sitting together for a game.

Now it's like $10 for a bottle of water. God knows how much just to park. The last sporting event I went to was a day game for the Houston Astros and it was $20 to park and the cheapest beers were $9 warm Zigen Bachs. The tickets were dirt cheap though and the pitching matchup was Verlander vs Ohtani when he was still an Angel.

The last football game I went to was a preseason Texans game and we almost got kicked out because we didn't have tailgating tickets, let alone game tickets. My buddy just figured he had a parking pass. Fortunately this guy who had been giving me crap all day (Drew Brees played horrible that day) had 3 extra tailgate tickets. He asked me what I had, and I checked my wallet and said Ok I've got $34 and these ghetto store brand corn chips - he says ok, I'll sell you my extra tickets for $34 and some ghetto store brand corn chips 😂 I still have the warning ticket from HPD from that game. We all ate and sobered up before we went home, but if we had to leave immediately we all would have been arrested.

I worked in Cleveland, MS for four years. Most of the engineers graduated MSstate. I think you needed a Jefferson Award in order to tailgate at Starkville.

We just pregamed in the dorms back in the day. I dunno how much has changed since 1998, but the cops there were not very friendly. Those batons hurt and they're wrapped in leather so they don't leave visible bruises. I caught a PI charge because my buddy left his keys with his girlfriend when he tried to drive me home lol. It all got dropped, but still - lesson learned.

Grand Daughter goes to OU, and I was checking game prices... As cheap as $41 for the Kent State game.... to $621 for the "Red River Rivalry", with Texas... That would be a fun game to attend, but not at those prices...

I had an ex that worked for HEB, and one year I got to go sit in their luxury suite. I mean the private bathrooms and free pizza and drinks were great, the seats were comfortable and everything, but as far as actually WATCHING a game it's so much better on TV. She thought it was weird that I got a little emotional, but I'm trying to explain to her that I literally slept in my truck at one point and now I'm sitting in a luxury suite at an NFL game. She didn't get it. She hated football and she resented the fact that I'd get drunk with her mom watching football all the time. Her mom was a Cowboys fan 🤢 but still. Anyway yeah. I think the face value of those seats was like $1400 for an end of season meaningless Christmas weekend game in which nobody had a chance at the playoffs. It's insane. Really kinda killed it for the real fans.

I'm a couple days late but I'd just like to say that Mississippi State won and Alabama lost.

I'd also like to point out like I did last year how awful it is that ESPN+ doesn't include normal ESPN, but now for an additional $17/month I can have all of ESPN. But I can watch the primetime games in Spanish. I mean, yo no comprende because yo soy gringo but at least it's football.

It's really hard to love Dak Prescott so much and hate the Cowboys at the same time. I mean sure the wheels fell off, but it'll forever be a trivia question - who was the first team ranked #1 under the College Football Playoff format?

Hail Damn State!

And Tennessee and LSU won!  😁  Anytime LSU plays Clemson on either campus you can say with 100% certainty that the Tigers will win in Death Valley!

The only NFL game I have been to was in 1987. Detroit came to Atlanta at the end of the season with the loser getting the #1 draft pick and, of course, the Falcons lost.  A colleague had season tickets and got fed up with them and gave me the ticket.  I refuse to pay to see an NFL game.  😝

When I lived in FL I was dating a rich girl. Her grandpa lived in MA but had Dolphins season tickets just so he could watch the Patriots games down there every year. We went to a Dolphins/Jets game in...it must have been 2008, both teams were awful. She _traded down_ from her family seats to Club Level because it was in the shade. I enjoyed the live jazz band and open bar. The football was awful and by halftime I asked if I could play QB. Anyway, when we were entering security wouldn't let me bring my Vitamin Water in because their policy stated only water could be brought in from the outside and lololol she cussed this poor rent a cop out so bad - IT SAYS WATER ON THE LABEL, IT'S LITERALLY WATER. She was fun...

@JohnAndSancho Bulldogs just scored with 30 seconds left up by 4 against #12 Arizona State... Will they hold on and storm the field? 😄

What is it now, a $250k fine for storming the field? Lol. Nothing can top Vandy throwing their goalposts in the river last year after beating Bama.

Worth every penny.

There's lots of haters talking about storming the field for a week 2 win, but this team ran all over us last year. Matter of fact, so did everybody else.

Yeah I have heard that term used before over here and online. 🤣

I used to follow the Bucs and then the Chargers when the NFL had a European surge in the mid 2000’s. I have a Bucs jersey. I used to watch every Super Bowl and play the Madden games (06 really got me into it). There was a period when I was pretty much the only kid in my year/grade at school who followed the NFL. Everyone else was our football/soccer. I followed both.

However all that enthusiasm has kind of been zapped out now. It’s not the same as it used to be. They still pack out Wembley once or twice a year when they play a game over here, but nobody is really following it outside of North America. The NFL surge over here only lasted from about 2005 - 2015. I didn’t even watch the last Super Bowl. My brother in law is the only person that I know who did watch it.

I don’t know whether it is a lack of quality nowadays and the loss of big names, but I think sport in general just isn’t as big as it was say 10-20 years ago. The same thing has happened with our football/soccer over here. Big names have retired and the FIFA / NFL video games just aren’t selling like they used to. Kids are more interested in Fortnite and other crap. 🤣 The Aurora has kind of gone a bit. Kinds don’t even properly play sports like they used to when we were growing up in the 80’s, 90’s 2000’s etc.

I dunno, they packed out Brazil, they pack out Germany, but then again it's kinda like a once a year thing, too. But I agree with you on the kids and video games and stuff. I would go to my friends house and her kids are like, watching YouTube videos of other people playing video games and not even playing games themselves, and when I was their age I was doing stunts on my bicycle and trying to find cool places to set off firecrackers and playing tackle football in the street and stuff like that - one of my friends ran face first into a brick mailbox and got taken care of and bandaged up by the prettiest girl in the neighborhood. You can't get that from Fortnite.

The good: Mississippi State is 4-1, but they're probably gonna get housed in the SEC schedule.

The bad: The Saints are awful, but at least they're not the worst ranked team anymore. They moved up to #31 so there's that.

You know what? I think they'll do like the Orlando Magic seem to do every year - be terrible, but be just good enough to not get a top 3 draft pick. If you're gonna suck, go all out.

The absolute stupidest imaginable way for Mississippi State to lose by Florida. You're moving the ball. Their defense can't stop you. There's 23 seconds left and you're in field goal range.

I think even casuals know this. You run the ball to get it to whichever hashmark your kicked wants, you spike the ball to stop the clock, you kick the field goal, you win the game. State hasn't won an SEC game in 2 years now. 2 entire years of being the basement dwellers. 23 seconds and all you've got to do is run the ball, spike it, kick it, win. You absolutely don't throw a pass there. You don't.

What does State do? Throws a pass that gets picked off by a 375 pound nose tackle and loses. FML.
