Outside the front door of my veterinarian's practice on Mobile is this small palm. Is it Trachycarpus fortunei? It looks dwarf to me. That might have something to do with the fact that it's a vertical pole outside the front door of a vet. It must get christened a dozen times a day.

It does give Trachy vibes but I'm hardly the expert. I've got Sancho well trained not to pee on any palms though.

I have quite a few small Trachy palms growing in my yard from where I had planted seeds.  I put in a dog run in my yard this past spring, so my dogs don't have access to the entire yard if I don't want them to.  Two of those Trachy's were in the newly-closed in area.  My boy dogs both kept on marking one and quickly killed it.  😟 Thankfully, they haven't been interested in the other.

I guess somebody pruned the trunk of that Vet's palm to look like that?

Looks trachycarpus to me and a very old  one at that!

It's definitely Trachycarpus fortunei.  Looks odd because it was given a shave and a haircut.  Or maybe the dog urine melted away the hair!  I prefer this smooth trunk look to the typical hairy trunk with random old leaf bases left on.  Nice looking Trachycarpus!

As you guessed. I think the bare trunk was helped along by high humidity.

Mobile is a very nice place by the way. I would also say it's a Trachycarpus fortunei with a skinned trunk.
