ID help please ... for an unusual palm

Featured Replies

I'd appreciate help with the ID of this palm.  It's seeds are very unusual.

Mauritia flexuosa (Buriti or Aguaje)

I do like this palm! Thanks for the photos!

Sadly the ox rhino beetles in Puerto Rico love them too so I am down to only 4.

I hope you have a place to grow your own.

Many thanks for the ID.  I see it is very common in parts of South America, but I have only seen 2 trees here in Thailand, and the seeds I have collected are not viable - unfortunately, so I will try next year.

Since this species has male and female flowers on separate trees it is great that you found fruit at all!

I hope next year you will get good germination.
