Do trunk cut palms ever look "normal" again?

I think they do end up looking normal after some time (depending on how major the cuts are). I recently (about 3-4 months ago) trunk cut a young queen palm of mine that got spear pull and while it was slightly stunted it looks about normal now. I will say the damage was nowhere near as severe as yours.

I would expect that over time the newer frond bases will push outwards as usual and maybe the old trunk will rot away. Your butia might take a year or more, but the trachy looks to have less of a noticeable width difference. But I haven’t had experience with a trunk cut of that scale so I’ll let other people add their thoughts.

    They will look like nothing happened to them at some point.  Yours will take longer because they're in pots but the Trachycarpus grows faster and should recover quicker.  If they're not damaged this coming winter I would think by this time next year.
