Mediterranean fan palm in zone 7b northern va

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hey planted my second palm today in ground (I planted sabal minor a couple weeks ago) it is a Mediterranean fan palm. I know it probably won’t grow here especially at that age without protection so I will protect it with those special Christmas lights and a frost cloth or a small homemade insulation box. how do you think it will do? I do have two windmill palms but not big enough to plant they probably will be planted next spring or fall. This is my first of many experiments I plan on trying a queen palm, sabal palmettos and fruiting edible bananas here in 7b Fairfax Va.  if your in my area I would love to see your collection too!

Tried one over here around 10 years ago. First Winter pummeled it and the second was the death knell. Keep protecting it.

They're very slow growing. I would start with one that already has some trunk.
