This time of year is especially rewarding in the garden . New growth everywhere! My climate is mild so we do get growth in winter but it really picks up now with warmer temps , usually low 80’s f. I got off work yesterday and checked out my “to do” list for my weekend gardening and watering. I took a few pics of some of the plants . The Rhopalostylus Bauri Cheesmania is opening up! Behind it you can see an “ Ernie” loving the company with a new frond opening.77216506527__CD8EF544-35A0-4D96-B13E-49C519C17BEF.thumb.jpeg.fc192844028ef172b348e2f67e7eeffc.jpeg

Dypsis Plumosa is on its third frond since it was planted about a year ago.77216508806__C7F56547-4F31-401D-874F-5150244FE0C6.thumb.jpeg.fdd64ded73fa8de895e30bcd8802276d.jpeg

Next to the Plumosa is a double Dypsis Basilonga ( I think) . The loosely tied piece of wire so the petiole don’t break from the weight of the leaflets. This one is slower than the other palms I have planted along my walkway but still growing well.77216512749__FD6CC4A9-CE8F-4157-8570-F25DE1191A71.thumb.jpeg.5a39bc626aec284b0e6e4a7cc0dc953e.jpeg

‘Above pic of my Dypsis Lanceolata . The new spear is starting to show signs of opening up . Below , the stem is swelling and showing signs that it wants to take off!77216519887__06397AF6-22FA-4E51-BC33-386A0745B164.thumb.jpeg.150e866bd65fdf06cba4d8f4cc0066dd.jpeg77216522631__1C354DAA-8999-425D-88D9-0808F254D4CC.thumb.jpeg.76933045fce62fe635833bad3b3959d3.jpeg

I recently planted this Cyphophoenix Nucele and the spear is growing already , should open late summer at this rate.77216536508__D8BB8DF8-1E7D-49F0-9195-FD13DFAE58CD.thumb.jpeg.5bd582832c5e7f95e29f3d45cc875344.jpeg

I can always tell when this Dioon Spinalosa is ready for a flush , the fronds tend to relax downward.77216537506__6B3857EC-8A42-4661-825F-C288915FC7FD.thumb.jpeg.43e4bab4c939c0da12b7e78f675dc9c8.jpeg

Sure enough , here it comes. This has been a real winner for me .77216544375__902487A5-BCB0-423C-AE9D-9BEE6B57BFC3.thumb.jpeg.be35fa8efc4ff850016de345a6b2f236.jpeg

My poor little Wodyetia struggled through their first winter in the ground . Now waking up.77216549643__9BFD06A3-CC84-4F67-B3C1-87A27EFD3A82.thumb.jpeg.477c47297842bd5d52a4cfb487cfcb77.jpeg

This Chamaedorea Ernesti Augusti has just been marvelous . I like it so much I bought two more for the other side of the house.

Gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous.

I want to try a Rhopy as a houseplant so bad. I know both the summers and winters here would absolutely smoke it, but I want one.

You have some very pretty palms there but that Dioon is to die for. Speaking of dying, can I have it when you croak ?

Beautiful little tour of the garden Harry. I like to see other gardens. Your garden has a certain California vibe to it and you got some palms I don’t even have yet. Keep on planting and posting pics of your garden, it’s an addictive hobby and you’re hooked like the rest of us!

Yea , being here and seeing yours and other gardens is fuel on the fire for me . I am looking for little empty spots for more. My hill has plenty of room but life is hard down there , the special ones won’t make it . I’m still working around the gopher problem. I found my Syagrus Schizophylla eaten all the way to the stem -roots first.

There are stacks of smaller palms for around the house, it comes down to tracking them down and getting them. That’s the hardest part with a lot of small is palms getting hold of them, for sure they will grow in your climate finding them is another story. If could order from florabunda pslms in Hawaii I would be into there palms quicker than a rat up a drain pipe! Keep them coming Harry we need more growers like yourself that love palms!
