I just planted one of these a few weeks ago. Thank you for posting a pic . Looking at how close the rings are on that one , it will be a very long time before mine gets a trunk! Harryimage.thumb.jpg.d47521476f8d3b749eb6d422a6714523.jpg

Great looking palm, Ray! I think mine’s about the size of yours, maybe a bit smaller, but leaf bases are persistent right down to the ground. I want to see some trunk!

@Jim in Los Altos thanks for posting the pic. My little one is in about the same amount of sun light. There is a period of time when sun hits it for about an hour . After that it is dappled light . The other small Dypsis I planted along the walkway last year seem to like there . Like you , the sun here can get quite warm for such a young palm. The mature Archontophoenix and Syagrus are doing their job on that side of my house , nature’s shade cloth! Now that I have better knowledge and a canopy , I am trying new things. My trips to @DoomsDave have introduced me to palms that I never heard of and rekindled the spark in collecting palms. Harry

Yes, they really seem to prefer shade. I have one that gets morning and late afternoon sun and it shows. Some of its leaf surfaces are burned and its growth is slower than the one that’s in all day shade.

Thanks!  It's basically living on it's own in my backyard.  It is from a 2009 Floribunda purchase.  This one was the alpha of the seedlings.   I have a few elegens as well and they are much slower growers for me.  This Nucele has shot up nicely.   East Central Florida, Merritt Island.  I'm surrounded by mango so this palm likes the microlimate of my backyard and near the house.  I'd mistake it as a Veitchia if I were to guess and didn't know I planted it.
