Springtime in coastal Maine

As we start the countdown to the summer solstice here in Maine, every year I trim the windmill of its flowers before they make a mess and help promote frond growth. Mulch the gardens and even though it never ends I give the lawn a good trim to welcome the summer months (hopefully no drought). figured I’d share the progress and here’s a few pictures of this years landscapes

Nice palms. I would not trim any green leaves in that climate. Season is short and the plant has more mass each year to maintain.

I do it for the lowest ones to allow the sun in and dry the rocks,/soil. we have a lot of moisture here with cooler temps so fungus and mold develop easy. Usually only trim a few, but usually have many more new fronds develop by fall anyways

The fallacy of reduced growth has made the rounds and has no merit. Notwithstanding, your palms do look healthy. 👍

I've heard people say it both ways, and although my story would be very un-scientific.  With mine, my largest one is the only one that bloomed with lots of stalks this year (besides 1 small bloom stalk on another) and it seems to have produced less fronds than the other large ones. Like I said, very un-scientific and not really controlled but just an observation.

So, who knows, lol.

I've seen the slowing of growth during the flowering phase with things like Cordyline.  I have never noticed an example of this with any of my palms.
