Building the new greenhouse so why not start a bit of landscaping. A couple of rouge macrospermum in the greenhouse and a kentia should do for a start around the new greenhouse. It seemed to have worked planting a few palms around the old greenhouse. At least I will see them grow up and be part of a feature in the future.

Well done!

Richad, are these Carpoxylon seed grown and if - what is the secret to get them sprouted?

I have tried them a couple of times but never ever got a single one jumping into live.

Any advice?

Thanks yes they are germinated by none other than myself. Fresh seeds are the key. Coco coir perlite bottom heating 30 degrees Celsius. I will say they are tricky as seedlings they just up and die for no reasons. The ones you see I planted started  to get shaded out in the greenhouse and started to look like that within two weeks it’s not cold damage although cool soil temperatures in the shaded situation might be the problem, so rather than watch them decline I planted them out. Watch your watering schedule don’t overwater them.

Richard,

thanks a lot!

When the Japanese Yen has dropped back to a normal level, I am considering orders at rps again. At the moment it is ridiculous to do any international order, you pay a fortune for stuff you didn't think about twice a couple of years ago.

However, thanks again and my honest apologies for not spelling your name correctly in my first response. (Trusting the auto-correct seems to be a mistake!)

Fresh seeds are again the trick. I ordered two hundred seeds from Hawaii. There was a delay in customs due to incorrect paperwork. I finally got it sorted out but by the time I got them two and a half months later.  I only got two from two hundred seeds and one died after germinating. If you want seeds there are stacks of them port villa in Vanuatu may i suggest a holiday there. And don’t worry about the incorrect spelling I have been called a lot worse than that in my day 🤣

You certainly have patience to get the variety you want 👍. Growing from seed is fun and rewarding but takes space and dedication. I just planted another handful of Wodyetia seeds and hoping the Dypsis Decipiens seeds germinate in my garden . I don’t have room for a proper seedling bench with heat mats . Whatever pops up is a free palm! I also planted some Arenga seeds so who knows? I am waiting for fresh seeds from a huge Decipiens in a friends garden , the last ones were a few months old but still worth a try. I have had Howea pop up in my garden , the first two are starting to get over knee high ….so cool! Harry

Patience is a virtue and with palm growing it certainly is true. One trick is have so many varieties on the go and you don’t notice how slow they are, simply because your on the go growing so many. All you need for a propagation setup is warm shed and shelf up high even the baggie method hanging on the the dry weather clothes line, but the wife might complain in the wet weather not being able to hang your socks up.

Oh the new greenhouse will have a bit of tech going into it, the old saying if it looks good it grows good!
